A control method and a control device are provided for autonomously controlling a host vehicle when turning across an oncoming lane at an intersection with a signal light being green. A determination is made as to whether or not the host vehicle can make a right or left turn while a signal light is still green at a time of the right or left turn, either while the host vehicle in the left lane is waiting in a row of vehicles to make the right turn or while the host vehicle traveling in the right lane is waiting in a row of vehicles to make the left turn at an intersection during travel under autonomous driving. The host vehicle then creeps forward to a start position for starting at a next time the signal light is green upon determining the right or left turn cannot be made.

Control method and control device for controlling autonomously driven vehicle

An acceleration rate is controlled so that a vehicle speed during autonomous driving is caused to approach a target vehicle speed. When a host vehicle has caught up with another vehicle traveling ahead of the host vehicle, the vehicle speed of the host vehicle is limited in accordance with a headway distance to the other vehicle. An acceleration rate is changed in accordance with a frequency with which the host vehicle catches up to a preceding vehicle, which is another vehicle immediately ahead of the host vehicle, and to another vehicle ahead of the preceding vehicle.

A variable valve control system for an internal combustion engine including a plurality of cylinders, the variable valve control system including a variable lift characteristic control mechanism to adjust a valve lift characteristic of each of intake valves. The variable valve control system is configured to perform determining an engine condition indicator in correlation with an actual relative variation in the valve lift characteristic between the cylinders; determining a desired valve lift characteristic in accordance with an operating condition of the internal combustion engine; controlling the valve lift characteristic of each of the intake valves in accordance with the desired valve lift characteristic; determining the engine condition indicator when the desired valve lift characteristic is equal to a predetermined small valve lift characteristic setting; and expanding the small valve lift characteristic setting if the determined engine condition indicator is larger than a predetermined first threshold value.

An intake control apparatus is configured to control a variable valve operating mechanism and an opening degree of a throttle valve. The variable valve operating mechanism varies the valve lift characteristic of the intake valves to control the intake air amount into the cylinders of the engine. The throttle valve produces a negative pressure inside the collector, but in a valve control region including medium loads, the pressure inside the collector is fixed at a weak negative pressure and the intake air amount is controlled by varying the valve lift characteristic of the intake valves. In an internal EGR priority region of low loads, the negative pressure is strengthened somewhat and the lift/duration of the intake valves is increased. When the engine is cold, the negative pressure is adjusted to be close to atmospheric pressure and the lift/duration of the intake valves is reduced.
