A roller is equipped with an elastic layer comprising a foam, wherein at least a part of the elastic layer is subjected to permanent compressional deformation by heating compression, and the cells in the elastic layer subjected to permanent compressional deformation by heating compression outnumber the cells therein before the heating compression; and a process for producing the above roller in high efficiency. The above process enables the production of the roller in which the surface state of only an arbitrary portion thereof is modified according to the purpose of use, and the roller thus obtained can exhibit high performances in a variety of applications including paper feed roller, developer conveying roller and so forth.

Process for producing an electrographics roller

A flexible polyurethane foam is prepared by reacting a polyol with an isocyanate in the presence of water, a catalyst, a foam stabilizer and other aids. A polyol containing a hydrophilic organic acid metal salt and/or a polymer thereof is used as the polyol. The polyurethane foam is compressed to a thickness of 5 to 80% of its initial thickness. The resulting polyurethane foam has a water absorption comparable to PVA foam.

A sealing material is prepared by furnishing a liquid composition comprising a polydiene or polyolefin polyol, a polyisocyanate compound, a foam stabilizer, and a blowing agent, uniformly dispersing an inert gas in the liquid composition by mechanical agitation to form a bubbled composition, shaping the bubbled composition into a sheet shape, and heat curing the bubbled shape at a temperature below the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent. The sealing material is lightweight and has a high blowing magnification. On use, the sealing material is disposed in a cavity of an automotive pillar or similar member and heated for foaming to fill the cavity with the foamed product.

An improved process for producing a flexible polyurethane foam having improved flame retardance and physical properties by reacting a polyhydroxy compound and a polyisocyanate compound in the presence of a blowing agent, wherein the improvement comprises using as the polyhydroxy compound one in which an aldehyde condensation polymer has been formed by polycondensation and dispersed such that it accounts for preferably from 5 to 30 wt % of the total amount of the polyhydroxy compound, and adding as the flame retardant a melamine powder preferably in an amount of from 5 to 100 parts by weight for 100 parts by weight of said polyhydroxy compound.

Process for producing flexible polyurethane foam

A process for producing a polyurethane foam from a foam raw material containing polyols, organic isocyanates, catalysts and blowing agents, which comprises using as the polyols a high-molecular weight polyol having a hydroxyl number lower than 100 and a low-molecular weight polyol having a hydroxyl number higher than 200 which are mixed at a ratio of 4:6 to 6:4 (by weight), and also using as the catalysts a tertiary amine alone. Polyurethane forms having good buckling performance can be obtained by the process and they are expected to be useful as a packaging material, shock-absorbing material, heat-insulating material, and so on.

Process for producing polyurethane foam

A thermochromatic polyurethane foam comprising a polyol and a polyisocyanate as main components, and a thermochromic composition serving as a coloring agent and added to the main components singly or conjointly with a usual dye or pigment. The thermochromic composition comprises an electron-donating chromogenic material, an acidic substance and a solvent.
