An optical connector jig for connecting a second optical connector to a first optical connector, or disconnecting the second optical connector from the first optical connector, includes a first housing and a second housing. The first housing includes a positioning portion to determine a position of the jig with respect to the first optical connector in cooperation with a member indicating a position of the first optical connector. The second housing grips the second optical connector such that, when the jig is positioned with respect to the first optical connector, a connection surface of the second optical connector faces a connection surface of the first optical connector. The second housing moves with respect to the first housing such that the connection surface of the gripped second optical connector is close to or away from the connection surface of the first optical connector.

An optical apparatus includes a light emitting apparatus and a host apparatus. The light emitting apparatus includes a housing extending in a first direction, a light emitting device mounted in the housing, an optical connector including a first optical connection part provided at one end of the housing, and an electrical connector including a first electrical connection part provided at one end of the housing and receiving a voltage to drive the light emitting device. The host apparatus includes a host optical connector including a second optical connection part which faces the first optical connection part and is optically coupled thereto, a host electrical connector including a second electrical connection part facing the first electrical connection part and being electrically connected to the first electrical connection part, and a host board mounting the host optical connector and the host electrical connector thereon. The light emitting apparatus is connected to the host apparatus in the optical apparatus.

An optical fiber connection component is provided with: a glass plate that has a plurality of first through-holes; a resin ferule that has a plurality of second through-holes respectively coaxial to the first through-holes and that is fixed to the glass plate; and a plurality of optical fibers that is arranged on a surface of the resin ferrule. One or more glass fibers disposed within each of the plurality of optical fibers, a surface of each of the glass fibers being covered with a resin coating, and a portion of each of the glass fibers being exposed from a tip of each of the optical fibers. The exposed portion of each of the glass fibers is held in a corresponding one of the first through-holes and a corresponding one of the second through-holes.

Optical fiber connection component and optical fiber connection structure

A ferrule according to an embodiment is a ferrule of an optical connector to which a counterpart connector is connected. The ferrule includes an end portion having an optical fiber retention hole and a guide hole opened, the optical fiber retention hole into and on which a fiber is inserted and retained, the guide hole into which a guide pin is inserted, the guide pin establishing positioning to the counterpart connector. A manufacturing method for manufacturing a multi-fiber connector, including: shaping a part of each of a plurality of optical fibers such that a part of an outer peripheral surface of a glass fiber including one end portion becomes a flat surface; arranging each of the plurality of optical fibers in a positioning component such that the entire flat surface protrudes from the positioning component; rotationally aligning each of the plurality of optical fibers such that the flat surface comes into contact with a reference surface of a jig; fixing each of the plurality of optical fibers to the positioning component; and cutting and removing a part of the glass fiber which protrudes from the positioning component and includes the flat surface and grinding a cut surface of each of the plurality of optical fibers which is exposed from the positioning component.

Manufacturing method for manufacturing multifiber connector and multi-fiber connector

An optical connecting structure for connecting multi-core fibers is disclosed. The optical connecting structure includes first multi-core fibers of which each optical fiber includes cores, second multi-core fibers of which each optical fiber includes cores, a first optical system which allows at least a part of light beams emitted from the cores of each first multi-core fiber to have different propagation directions, and a second optical system which allows each light beam emitted from each first multi-core fiber and propagated through the first optical system to be condensed on the plurality of second multi-core fibers. A first fiber array where the first multi-core fibers are arrayed in a first surface intersecting an optical axis of the first optical system corresponds to a first core array where the cores in the respective optical fibers of the first multi-core fibers are arrayed in the first surface.

Optical connecting structure for connecting multi-core fibers

An optical connector ferrule according to an embodiment includes an MT ferrule, and a spacer mounted on an optical end surface of the MT ferrule and having a guide hole into which a guide pin is inserted. The spacer has a contact surface that contacting the counterpart connector and a recess surrounded by the contact surface. The spacer includes a lens part exposed on a bottom surface of the recess and optically coupled to the optical end surface of the MT ferrule and a base part that retains the lens part by surrounding the lens part. The material of the lens part and the material of the base part are different from each other, and the difference between the linear expansion coefficient of the base part and the linear expansion coefficient of the MT ferrule is 0.5&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. or less.

Optical connection structure

An optical connector is disclosed. The optical connector includes an optical fiber, a ferrule that holds the optical fiber, the ferrule having a flat ferrule end surface facing a counterpart optical connector, and a spacer provided on the ferrule end surface so as to define a clearance between the ferrule end surface and the counterpart optical connector. A tip surface of the optical fiber is exposed at the ferrule end surface. Respective normal directions to the tip surface of the optical fiber and the ferrule end surface are inclined with respect to an optical-axis direction of the optical fiber in a section along an optical axis of the optical fiber. The spacer includes an opening configured to allow an optical path extending from the tip surface of the optical fiber to pass therethrough.

Optical connector and optical coupling structure

A receptacle connector comprises a receptacle ferrule, and a receptacle housing including a cavity housing the receptacle ferrule and a cavity housing a plug connector. The receptacle ferrule includes an optical coupling surface (front surface). An opening area of the cavity on a cross section vertical to an inserting direction of the plug connector to the receptacle housing is smaller than an opening area of the cavity on the cross section vertical to the inserting direction. In a second state after being optically coupled, the optical coupling surface (front surface) is positioned inside the cavity.

An adapter includes an optical connector accommodation part having a first cavity in which a first optical connector having a first front end portion is to be accommodated, and a second cavity in which a second optical connector having a second front end portion is to be accommodated, and a spacer having a first surface configured to contact the first front end portion, a second surface configured to contact the second front end portion, and a light transmission part configured to enable a light beam to pass therethrough. The spacer being arranged between the first cavity and the second cavity. At a state where the first front end portion is contacted to the first surface and the second front end portion is contacted to the second surface, the first optical interface part and the second optical interface part face each other at a predetermined interval.

Adapter and optical connector coupling system

A GRIN lens array of an embodiment has a structure for enabling a coupling face in which lens end faces of GRIN lenses are arranged, to be accurately polished so as to have a desired angle relative to optical axes of the GRIN lenses. The GRIN lens array has the GRIN lenses and a main body portion. The main body portion comprises a holding portion having a coupling face, and an edge portion having a reference face to be used as a reference in polishing of the coupling face. The respective thicknesses of the holding portion and the edge portion along the longitudinal direction of the GRIN lenses are set so as to form a step between the coupling face and the reference face.

An optical connection structure comprising: a substrate including a main surface and an optical waveguide in which a beam is incident or emitted in a direction intersecting with the main surface; a receptacle including a first lens and a connector guide and disposed on the substrate such that the first lens and the optical waveguide are optically coupled; and an optical connector including a second lens and a guide unit and holding an optical fiber so as to be optically coupled with the second lens, wherein: the receptacle and the optical connector are configured to be detachably through the connector guide and the guide unit; and the first lens and the second lens are optically coupled by mounting the optical connector to the receptacle.
