A method of removing water from a mixture of iodine (I) and water includes providing a mixture comprising iodine and water and: contacting the mixture with an adsorbent to selectively adsorb water from the mixture, contacting the mixture with a concentrated acid to absorb water from the mixture, separating the water from mixture by distillation, contacting the mixture with a gas that is inert to iodine (I), contacting the mixture with hydrogen iodide (HI), or combinations thereof.

A process for making 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (HFO-1234yf) includes providing a composition including 2-chloro-1,1,1,2-tetrafluoropropane (HCFC-244bb) to a reactor including a heater surface at a surface temperature greater than about 850° F. (454° C.), and then bringing the composition into contact with the heater surface for a contact time of less than 10 seconds to dehydrochlorinate a portion of the HCFC-244bb to make HFO-1234yf.

The present disclosure provides a process for producing trifluoroiodomethane, the process comprising providing a reactant stream comprising hydrogen iodide and at least one trifluoroacetyl halide selected from the group consisting of trifluoroacetyl chloride, trifluoroacetyl fluoride, trifluoroacetyl bromide, and combinations thereof, reacting the reactant stream in the presence of a first catalyst at a first reaction temperature from about 25° C. to about 400° C. to produce an intermediate product stream comprising trifluoroacetyl iodide, and reacting the intermediate product stream in the presence of a second catalyst at a second reaction temperature from about 200° C. to about 600° C. to produce a final product stream comprising the trifluoroiodomethane.

Processes for producing trifluoroiodomethane and trifluoroacetyl iodide

The present disclosure provides a composition including trifluoroacetyl iodide, at least one organic impurity and at least one inorganic impurity. Heavy impurities, such as oligomers and other high boiling impurities, that are present may be purged during the process to prevent yield loss and reduction of catalyst efficacy.

Integrated process for making 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (HCFO-1233zd) from a mixture of high-boiling fluorinated components

The present disclosure provides high purity E-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (HFO-1234ze). More specifically, the present disclosure provides E-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (HFO-234ze) in at least 99.99% purity, containing less than 3 ppm 1,1,3,3,3-pentafluoropropene (HFO-1225zc). The present disclosure provides a process for making trifluoroacetyl iodide (TFAI) in a liquid phase reaction. Specifically, the present disclosure provides a liquid phase reaction of trifluoroacetyl chloride (TFAC) and hydrogen iodide (HI), with or without a catalyst, to form trifluoroacetyl iodide (TFAI). The reaction may be performed at ambient or elevated temperatures.

A method of producing trifluoroiodomethane (CFI) includes providing a feedstock comprising trifluoroacetyl iodide (TFAI), passing the feedstock through at least one column charged with carbonaceous materials to remove hydrogen iodide (HI), hydrogen triiodide (HI) and iodine (I) from the feedstock, and providing the feedstock to a reactor to produce a trifluoroiodomethane product stream. Another method of producing trifluoroiodomethane (CFI) includes providing a feedstock comprising trifluoroacetyl iodide (TFAI) to a reactor to produce a trifluoroiodomethane product stream, and passing the trifluoroiodomethane product stream from the reactor through at least one column charged with carbonaceous materials to remove hydrogen iodide (HI), hydrogen triiodide (HI3) and iodine (I2) from the trifluoroiodomethane product stream.
