The disclosed systems, structures, and methods are directed to a LiDAR system comprising a radiation source configured to emit light pulses towards a region of interest (ROI), a detector configured to detect light pulses reflected from the ROI, a processor, communicatively coupled to the radiation source and the detector, configured to cause the radiation source to emit a preamble light pulse having an energy Eand a pulse width Wtowards the ROI, determine, if the preamble light pulse is detected by the detector and whether there is an object in the ROI, responsive to a determination that there is an object in the ROI, cause the radiation source to emit a scanning light pulse having an energy Eand a pulse width Wtowards the ROI, else the radiation source to emit a scanning light pulse having an energy Eand the pulse width Wtowards the ROI.

Preamble pulse based LiDAR systems and methods

The disclosed systems, structures, and methods are directed to an optical transceiver, employing a first optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) module configured to generate a first OTDR signal, and a second OTDR signal, the second OTDR signal being a delayed version of the first OTDR signal, a first optical supervisory channel (OSC) transmitter configured to generate a first OSC signal, and a second OSC signal, the second OSC signal being a delayed version of the first OSC signal, a first wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) configured to transmit the first OSC signal interleaved with the first OTDR signal on a first optical fiber and a second WDM configured to transmit the second OSC signal interleaved with the second OTDR signal on a second optical fiber.

Method and apparatus for an optical transceiver

The disclosed systems, apparatuses and methods are directed to controlling a difference between a first center frequency of a first optical subcarrier and a second center frequency of a second optical subcarrier of an optical super-channel signal in an optical network. The method comprises modulating the first optical subcarrier at a first optical side component frequency with a first side modulation frequency and modulating the second optical subcarrier at a second optical side component frequency with a second side modulation frequency. Method and apparatus for laser frequency control

A Raman pump unit for connection to a main optical path includes a signal generator for generating a plurality of at least partially complementary dither signals, a plurality of modulators connected to said signal generator capable of receiving pump driver signals and modulating these in accordance with the dither signals and a plurality of pumps connected to the modulators for receiving producing optical pump signals from the modulated pump driver signals. The unit also includes an optical coupler connected to the plurality of pumps for introducing a combination of the optical pump signals into the main optical path. The use of pump dithering increases the spectral width of the optical pump signals being injected into the main optical path, which helps to fight the deleterious effects of SBS. Meanwhile, pump noise transfer to the main optical signal is mitigated because the signal gain is the combination of two at least partially complementary pump dither signals.
