The present invention relates to thermal materials and methods of making the same. Disclosed herein is a thermal material, comprising: a boron-containing nanomaterial; and a thermal fluid operable to hydrogen bond with the boron-containing nanomaterial; wherein the thermal material presents an increase in thermal conductivity over the pure thermal fluid by an amount of 30% or greater. Also disclosed herein are methods for making a thermal material.

Thermal management materials and methods of making the same

Disclosed herein is a method of homogeneously mixing solids, comprising: mixing, in a fluid medium, at least a first nanoparticle material and a surfactant, wherein the surfactant causes the first nanoparticle material to distribute uniformly in the fluid medium and have a specific charge; adding, to the fluid medium, a second nanoparticle material, wherein the surfactant has a charge of opposite polarity to the zeta potential of the second nanoparticle material; attaching the second nanoparticle material to the first nanoparticle material using the charge attraction of the surfactant and the second nanoparticle material to obtain a homogeneous material; and removing the attached first and second nanoparticle materials from the fluid medium to obtain a solid homogeneous material.

Homogeneously mixed solids and methods of making the same

An engine oil additive includes carbon nanotubes and boron nitride particulates dispersed within a fluid. The additive is configured to be mixed with a quantity of oil such that the quantity of oil has a concentration from 0.05 to 0.5 grams of carbon nanotubes and of boron nitride particulates per quart of oil to improve the lubricity of the oil. The additive improves the horsepower and torque of the engine while reducing fuel consumption. The carbon nanotubes have an —OH functionalized exterior surface. The carbon nanotubes have a diameter from 1 nanometer to 50 nanometers and have a length from 1 micron to 1000 microns. The boron nitride particulates are hex-boron nitride structures having an average size from 30 nanometers to 500 nanometers.

Lubricant with nanoparticulate additive

Disclosed herein is a conductive coating composition that includes a functionalized carbon nanomaterial and/or boron nanomaterial and a fluid component. The nanomaterial and fluid component forms hydrogen bond network in the disclosed composition. Because of the formed hydrogen bonds, the disclosed coating exhibits enhanced thermal or electrical conductivity. Also disclosed is a method to improve thermal or electrical conductivity of an existing coating composition.

The present invention relates to magnetically aligned carbon nanoparticle composites and methods of preparing the same. The composites comprise carbon nanoparticles, host material, magnetically sensitive nanoparticles and surfactant. The composites may have enhanced mechanical, thermal, and/or electrical properties.

Magnetically aligned carbon nanoparticle composites have enhanced electrical properties. The composites comprise carbon nanoparticles, a host material, magnetically sensitive nanoparticles and a surfactant. In addition to enhanced electrical properties, the composites can have enhanced mechanical and thermal properties.
