The invention relates to an integration of a programmable memory device in a luminaire for storing service-related information such as drive parameters, repair history information and the like. The memory device can be read out by the same connectivity used for driving the luminaire, so that the driver can be informed about required operation conditions. The driver can thus learn about the service-related information before starting to drive the luminaire.

Method and system for supporting serviceability of luminaires

High-speed optical communication is very attractive to satisfy high throughput applications. In the meanwhile, it is also desirable to reduce the energy waste resulted from an idle state of the optical transceivers of the communication system. The present invention discloses that both the access point () and the end point device () can operate in at least two different operation states, a normal operation state and a low power state. The low power state is a default state, and the normal operation state is enabled only when a valid trigger is detected. Because of the line-of-sight characteristic of an optical link and the limited field of view of an optical receiver, optical cells are typically deployed with a relatively high density and adjacent optical cells may have an overlapping area. The invention relates to an incorporation of a current limiting/regulating circuit on a luminaire board for ensuring that the luminaire board will automatically operate at its desired current after a replacement. Since the current control at the luminaire board causes an initial mismatch between the current supply of the driver and the demand of the luminaire board, the driver output voltage will drift towards the maximum output voltage of the driver. When the maximum output voltage is reached, the driver is configured to operate in constant-voltage (CV) mode, sense the output current and reduce its output current to the same value as consumed by current-controlled luminaire board. Alternatively, the driver may gradually reduce the setpoint of the output current until it just leaves the CV mode and stay at that setpoint. In this way, the driver will automatically operate at the correct current of a newly installed luminaire board without any action from the user.

Method and system for setting a driving current of luminaires

This invention relates to a power supply system for an optical wireless communication system where a modem () is connected to a plurality of transceivers (). The underlying idea being that the transceivers () are powering the modem (), rather than the modem () powering the transceivers (). To achieve this, a power combiner is provided that can receive power from the transceivers (). The transceivers () power down when no endpoint is detected and use a subset of emitters, in which case the modem () can also be switched to a lower power mode.

A lamp comprises an input for connection to a high frequency ballast for gas discharge lamps. A power supply unit obtains power from a LED on voltage of the LED of the lamp, and the power supply unit powers an isolation switch at the input. During a preheat stage of the ballast, the power supply unit does not close the isolation switch, but the isolation switch is closed when the high frequency ballast is in a later state, i.e. the ignition phase.
