A method of designing a nanostructure, comprises: receiving a far field optical response and material properties; feeding the synthetic far field optical response and material properties to an artificial neural network having at least three hidden layers; and extracting from the artificial neural network a shape of a nanostructure corresponding to the far field optical response.

Method and system for characterizing a nanostructure by machine learning

A method for robust state manipulation in quantum information processing comprises evanescently coupling a first waveguide to a second waveguide, the first and second waveguide having different geometries respectively; and providing waveguide geometries such that their coupling is detuned, the detuning being a function of the geometries, the detuned coupling thereby providing reliable population transfer between the first and second waveguides that is robust to fabrication and other errors. The method may be used to provide a quantum optical coupler.

The technology disclosed in this patent document can be used to implement an optical device for generating broadband optical pulses, including an optical waveguide having different waveguide structures at different locations along the optical waveguide and with varying dimensions or pressure gradient that change adiabatically along the different locations to enable non-linear four wave mixing over a broad spectral range.

An imaging system comprises a light source generating a pump beam, and an optical coupling system for receiving an input beam of infrared light from a scene and combining the input beam with the pump beam, wherein an intensity of the pump beam is higher than an intensity of the input beam. This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus related to nanophotonics. In one aspect, an arrangement of waveguides includes a substrate and three waveguides. Each of the three waveguides may be a linear waveguide. A second waveguide is positioned between a first waveguide and a third waveguide. The dimensions and positions of the first, the second, and the third waveguides are specified to substantially eliminate coupling between the first waveguide and the third waveguide over a distance of about 1 millimeter to 2 millimeters along lengths of the first waveguide, the second waveguide, and the third waveguide.
