The present invention describes a device and a method for grading diamonds using electromagnetic fields with a radiofrequency or terahertz frequency. The method for grading diamonds comprises placing the diamond () into a grading device, applying an electromagnetic field with a frequency range of up to 30 THz to the diamond, recording a modulated signal received from the diamond in a form of S-parameters as a function of frequency or any other parameter that can be deduced by applying said electromagnetic field, processing the recorded signal in the processing unit to obtain data containing information about either an amplitude, or phase, or both of the recorded S-parameters as a function of frequency or said any other parameter, performing calculations relating to the obtained data, and running a computer algorithm correlating the calculated data to either nitrogen concentration, boron concentration or plastic deformation in diamonds, thereby allowing grading of the diamond. The device comprises the following components, RF generator (), transmitting antenna (), waveguide (), receiving antenna (), amplitude and frequency detector () and computing unit ().

Method and device for grading diamonds using radiofrequency (RF) spectroscopy

The present invention solves the existing problem of using very expensive oxidation reagents, such as HOand ozone, in removal of NOand SOfrom flue gases, by performing simultaneous oxidation of NOand SOwith atmospheric oxygen in a combined system for catalytic oxidation and wet-scrubbing of both NOand SOfrom a flue gas and manufacturing fertilisers. Two major configurations of the oxidation system are disclosed in the present invention. The first configuration operates on oxygen-enriched air to increase efficiency of the oxidation reaction and requires an additional oxygen concentrator unit. The second configuration operates on atmospheric air at ambient conditions and requires an additional catalyst activation unit. In the second configuration, the efficient oxidation process is carried out at low temperatures of about 30-90&#xb0; C. in the presence of recovered and re-activated catalyst. This temperature is a result of the exothermic character of the reaction, and therefore, no heating is required in the process.

Catalytic oxidation of NO/SOin flue gases with atmospheric oxygen as the oxidation reagent

A NOand SOoxidation with atmospheric oxygen to remove NOand SOfrom flue gases. The combined system for catalytic oxidation and wet-scrubbing of NOand SOfrom a flue gas and manufacturing fertilizers includes: an air separation unit for separating atmospheric oxygen from air and producing an air stream enriched with atmospheric oxygen, an adsorption and oxidation reactor containing an oxidation catalyst and carrying out the catalytic oxidation of NOand SOby said oxygen to yield nitric and sulphuric acids, a separator and reactor control unit for separation of products and liquids and controlling the reaction; and a vessel containing ammonia streaming said ammonia into the reactor or into the control unit to react with the nitric and sulphuric acids and to yield the fertilizers.
