A device may monitor an entry to or exit from a space via an access point. The entry access point has a first component and a second component that are separable from each other to create an opening for the entry or exit. The device may comprise a first part for mounting to one of said components and which has a processing component and a sensing component for sensing in multiple dimensions a magnetic field emanating from a second part mounted on the other of the first and second components. The processing component is configured: to receive an indication of the sensed magnetic field; detect a change of condition at the access point when a dynamic quality of the indication of the sensed magnetic field satisfies a predefined criterion; and output an indication of the detected change of condition. There may be a corresponding system, method and memory.

A method of allocating channels in a PTMP (point-to-multi-point) system having a master and a plurality of nodes comprising the steps of: transmission by the master to the nodes of a synch beacon, the sync beacon having a first frequency and a substantially fixed time period between successive sync beacon transmissions; dividing the time period into a slotted time and an unslotted time; allocating a plurality of slots in the slotted time for RF activity of the nodes that have resolved the sync beacon; and identifying the unslotted time for unallocated RF activity of the nodes that have not resolved the sync beacon.

Robust channel allocation method for RF communication systems

It is disclosed an extended-life video detector assembly (VDA) directable at a viewing region. The VDA includes a video camera module having a normally inactive state, and a passive detection module (PDM) for selective activation of the video camera module. A battery powers the VDA for an extended period of at least two years. The VDA may include a control panel assembly (CPA) positioned within a communication range from the VDA for sending and receiving wireless signals to and from the VDA, and a central monitoring station located remotely from the CPA and communicating with it. Also the VDA includes a recording module, for recording video information. The PDM discriminates movement of an object in the viewing region and consequently activates the video camera module, based on characteristic parameters like temperature, size, movement direction, and movement speed.
