The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a binder including polyvinyl alcohol, starch nanoparticles, and a crosslinkable polyurethane dispersion. The primer competitions can also include a cationic salt and water.

Primer compositions

The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a binder including polyvinyl alcohol, starch nanoparticles, and a polyurethane dispersion. The primer competitions can also include a cationic salt and water.

The present disclosure is drawn to coated print media, a method of preparing print media, and a printing system. The coated print media can comprise a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate. The coating can include, by dry weight, 5 wt % to 60 wt % of a polymeric binder having a Tg below 50 C, 10 wt % to 60 wt % of cationic latex having a Tg from 50 C to 130 C, 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a multivalent cationic salt, and 2 wt % to 25 wt % of a high density polyethylene wax.

Coated print media

Described herein is a media composition. The media composition includes a substrate and an ink receiving layer that includes binder that includes an ethylene-vinyl alcohol co-polymer with a glass transition temperature of 75 degrees Celsius or less, a melting point temperature of 175 degrees Celsius or less, and/or a crystallization temperature of 150 degrees Celsius or less. The ink receiving layer can be applied to a substrate using extrusion techniques.

Media composition

The present disclosure provides swellable pre-treatment compositions, printable media, and related methods. As such, a swellable pre-treatment coating for a print medium can include an evaporable solvent, a matrix, and a wax. The matrix can include from 10 wt % to 20 wt % of a fixer, from 25 wt % to 35 wt % of aluminum chlorohydrate, from 0.5 wt % to 10 wt % of a first binder, from 20 wt % to 30 wt % of a second cross-linkable binder, and from 1 wt % to 5 wt % of a cross-linker. The wax can be present at from 10 wt % to 20 wt %, The weight percentages of the matrix and the wax are based on a total amount present in the swellable pre-treatment coating after removal of the evaporable solvent.

Swellable pre-treatment coating

The present disclosure provides pre-treatment coatings, media substrates, and related methods. As such, a pre-treatment coating can include an evaporable solvent, a matrix, and a wax. The matrix can include a binder and a fixer, and the wax can include wax particles dispersed within the matrix. At least a portion of the wax particles can have a particle size that is greater than a thickness of the matrix when the pre-treatment coating is applied to a media substrate at a basis weight from 0.5 gsm to 20 gsm and the evaporable solvent removed.

Pre-treatment coating

A composition includes a mixture of a first polymer and a second polymer. The first polymer is selected from the group consisting of a polymer including ethylene residues and vinyl alcohol residues and a polymer including vinyl alcohol residues. The second polymer includes ethylene residues, vinyl acetate residues and maleic anhydride residues. An amount of the first polymer in the mixture is about 50% to about 95% by weight. An ink-printable composition includes the above composition as an ink-receiving material.

Ink-printable compositions

A composition includes a mixture including a first polymer and a second polymer. The first polymer includes methyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate residues in an amount of about 15% to about 25% by weight of the first polymer, maleic anhydride residues in an amount of about 2% to about 3.5% by weight of the first polymer, and ethylene residues. The second polymer includes butyl acrylate residues in an amount of about 5% to about 10% by weight of the second polymer, maleic anhydride residues in an amount of about 3% to about 4% by weight of the second polymer, and ethylene residues. An amount of the first polymer in the mixture is about 60% to about 90% by weight. The mixture may further include a pigment-LDPE composition wherein the amount of the first polymer in the mixture is about 50% to about 70% by weight.

Compositions and their use

The present disclosure provides pre-treatment compositions and related methods. As such, a pre-treatment coating for a print medium can include a an evaporable solvent, a matrix, and a wax. The matrix can include from 5 wt % to 20 wt % of a fixer, from 5 wt % to 20 wt % of a low Tg latex, and from 30 wt % to 80 wt % of a high Tg latex. The wax can include from 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a wax. The weight percentages of the matrix and the wax are based on a total amount present in the pre-treatment coating after removal of solvent.

An inkjet recording medium includes a substrate, a base layer disposed on the substrate, and an ink receiving layer disposed on the base layer. The ink receiving layer includes cationically-modified fumed silica having nanoparticles of alumina and/or silica mixed therein. The alumina nanoparticles have an individual particle size ranging from about 15 nm to about 50 nm, and the silica nanoparticles have an individual particle size ranging from about 5 nm to about 45 nm.
