Embodiments of the present disclosure describe a biomarker-responsive bifocal contact lens comprising a monovision contact lens having a first focal length and a Fresnel contact lens having a second focal length, wherein the Fresnel contact lens comprises a biomarker-responsive hydrogel, and wherein the Fresnel contact lens is disposed on an outer surface of the monovision contact lens, wherein an optical characteristic of the Fresnel contact lens changes in response to the biomarker concentration in the ocular fluid.

Biomarker-responsive contact lens

A method of forming an ophthalmic contact lens using an additive manufacturing apparatus is presented herein. The method providing a first solution comprising HEMA, PEGDA, and a photoinitiator, forming a support structure on a planar print bed of the additive manufacturing apparatus by depositing a first plurality of layers of the first solution and curing the first plurality of layers, and forming an ophthalmic contact lens on the support structure by depositing a second plurality of layers of the first solution and curing the second plurality of layers. The second plurality of layers are arranged such that a disc of the ophthalmic contact lens is oriented generally perpendicular to the planar print bed of the additive manufacturing apparatus.

Method of manufacturing contact lens for treating color vision deficiency

A method of incorporating nanoparticles into a contact lens includes contacting the contact lens with a solvent sufficient to remove liquid from the contact lens and contacting the contact lens with colloidal nanoparticles sufficient to transfer nanoparticles from the colloidal nanoparticles to the contact lens.

Nanocomposite contact lenses via chemical volumetric modulation of hydrogels

An ophthalmic contact lens configured to treat color vision deficiency is presented herein. The contact lens includes a tinted region containing either or both of a first dye that is configured to absorb at least 50% of incident light in a spectral band between 480 nanometers to 500 nanometers and a second dye that is configured to absorb at least 50% of incident light in a spectral band between 550 nanometers to 580 nanometers. A method of manufacturing such a contact lens and a process of forming an ophthalmic contact lens by an additive manufacturing process is also presented.

Contact lens for treating color vision deficiency and method of manufacturing same

Methods and systems for measuring the intraocular pressure of an eye in a human. The methods include directing an acoustic incident wave at the surface of the eye to generate a reflected wave, measuring the coefficient of reflection of the incident and reflected waves, and determining the intraocular pressure of the eye from the coefficient of reflection. Also disclosed are methods of diagnosing glaucoma and/or intraocular hypertension.

Methods and systems for measuring intraocular pressure using soundwaves

Embodiments include a fiber optic probe comprising an optical fiber, and a sensor component attached to the optical fiber, the sensor component including an asymmetric microlens array imprinted on a stimuli-responsive hydrogel. Embodiments further include a method of fabricating a fiber optic probe comprising depositing a stimuli-responsive hydrogel precursor solution on a substrate mold, the substrate mold including a concave asymmetric microlens array; contacting an end of an optical fiber with the stimuli-responsive hydrogel precursor solution deposited on the substrate mold; and exposing the end of the optical fiber and the stimuli-responsive hydrogel precursor solution to light to form a stimuli-responsive hydrogel sensor imprinted with a convex asymmetric microlens array and attached to the end of the optical fiber. Embodiments further include systems comprising the fiber optic probes.

Fiber optic integrated-light diffusers for sensing applications

Oil spill detection is crucial, both from an environmental perspective and the associated economic losses. Current optical oil sensing techniques, such as underwater microscopy and light scattering methods, mainly focus on detecting the properties of particles or organisms in water and often require costly equipment and sophisticated data processing. Recent studies on graphitic foam show its extraordinary pollutant absorbing properties, with high absorption weight ratios. Here we propose to produce a graphene foam based ultra-light material that changes its optical properties on absorbing oil species. The results demonstrate clear changes in optical transmission and scattering properties of graphene foam when exposed to various oils. The effective graphene foam sorbent can be easily integrated with optic fibers systems to detect the optical property variations and also to monitor oil presence/spillages remotely. Such sensors can also be used for underground oil exploration.
