Average power tracking (APT) systems with fast transient settling are disclosed. In certain embodiments, an APT system is used to provide a power amplifier supply voltage to a power amplifier that amplifies a radio frequency (RF) signal. The APT system controls the power amplifier supply voltage to track an average power of the RF signal, and includes a DC-to-DC converter that is assisted by an error amplifier in transitioning from one power amplifier supply voltage level to another power amplifier supply voltage level. Thus, the combination of a DC-to-DC converter with a fast changing error amplifier can swing enough AC voltage with a low enough slew rate to be able to rapidly transition the power amplifier supply voltage from one APT voltage level to another APT voltage level.

Aspects of this disclosure relate to a radio frequency system with tunable notch filtering. The radio frequency system includes a first tunable filter and a second tunable filter. The first tunable filter is coupled between an output of a power amplifier and a radio frequency switch. The second tunable filter includes mutually coupled inductors and a tunable impedance circuit electrically connected to at least one of the mutually coupled inductors. The second tunable filter is coupled between an antenna switch and an antenna node. Related methods and wireless communication devices are also disclosed.

The tunable filter includes mutually coupled inductors and a tunable impedance circuit electrically connected to at least one of the mutually coupled inductors. The tunable filter includes mutually coupled inductors and a tunable capacitance circuit electrically connected to at least one of the mutually coupled inductors. Aspects of this disclosure relate to efficient power amplifiers, such as class-F power amplifiers. A power amplifier transistor can provide an amplified RF signal. A termination can be coupled to an output of the power amplifier transistor and configured to provide a short circuit at a second harmonic. In some instances, the termination circuit can provide an open circuit at a third harmonic. A resonant circuit can be coupled to the output terminal of the power amplifier transistor and configured to provide an open circuit at the third harmonic. In certain embodiments, an input termination circuit coupled to an input terminal of the power amplifier transistor can provide a short circuit at the second harmonic. The power amplifiers of this disclosure can be implemented, for example, in envelope tracking applications.

Apparatus and methods for oscillation suppression are disclosed. In one embodiment, a power amplifier system includes a plurality of power amplifiers for amplifying an input radio frequency (RF) signal to generate an output RF signal. The plurality of power amplifiers include a first power amplifier, a second power amplifier, and a third power amplifier, each of which are configured to be individually switchable between an enabled state and a disabled state so as to control a power amplification of the power amplifier system. A first capacitor is electrically connected between the outputs of the first and second power amplifiers, and a second capacitor is electrically connected between the outputs of the second and third power amplifiers. The first and second capacitors are configured to allow signals generated using the first, second, and third power amplifiers to combine constructively to generate the output RF signal.
