Gear systems include a dual pinion and ring architecture. A gear system includes a housing with a shaft extending in the housing. The shaft includes an eccentric section and is rotatable about an axis. The eccentric section has a center that circles around the axis when the shaft rotates. A pinion gear unit is mounted on the eccentric section and has two sets of gear teeth. A ring gear is fixed to the housing and engages with one set of the gear teeth. Another ring gear engages with the other set of gear teeth and is fixed to a rotatable member. The gear system operates so that rotation of the shaft at a first speed effects rotation of the rotatable member at a second speed through the shaft, the pinion gear unit, and the ring gears.

Dual pinion and ring architecture for gear systems

A drive system includes a prime mover that provides an input, and an output system that is driven by the input. A torque transfer system is coupled between the prime mover and the output system. The torque transfer system includes two gear planes. Each of the gear planes includes a pair of gear meshes, and each of the pair of gear meshes has a floating structure.

A drive system for an electric vehicle includes a housing having a first housing portion, a second housing portion connected to the first housing portion, and a third housing portion connected to the second housing portion. The third housing portion includes a torque arm connectable to a vehicle chassis. A method for controlling a process for manufacturing a bevel gear includes forming, via a first process, a ring gear and determining a first set of parameters associated with the ring gear, and forming, via a second process, the pinion gear, and determining a second set of parameters associated with the pinion gear. The ring gear and the pinion gear are paired, and a single-flank test is executed on the paired ring gear and pinion gear to determine a third set of parameters. The paired ring gear and pinion gear are assembled into a final assembly, and an end-of-line noise/vibration analysis of the final assembly is executed. The noise/vibration analysis, the first set of parameters, the second set of parameters, and the third set of parameters are evaluated, and one of the first process, the second process, the pairing process, and the assembly process are adjusted based thereon.

Gear manufacturing process

An active damping system for a driveline includes a prop shaft configured to transmit engine power from an engine to a load, a sealed damper housing, and an active damping fluid contained within the sealed damper housing. A viscosity of the active damping fluid is changeable based on a torsional vibration of the prop shaft. The active damping system further includes a piston fixed to a side of the prop shaft and in communication with the active damping fluid. The piston is configured to rotate about an axis of the prop shaft. The system further includes a viscosity changing unit in communication with the active damping fluid, and a controller operatively connected to the viscosity changing unit. The controller is configured to cause the viscosity changing unit to change a viscosity of the active damping fluid. The viscosity of the active damping fluid changes the torsional vibration.

Active damper for torsional vibration and noise mitigation in a driveline

A radially stacked planetary gear assembly provides improved lubrication fluid flow to the planet gear bearings of an outer planetary gear set which is especially important when the housing or outer planetary gear carrier is stationary. The assembly includes radially aligned or stacked inner and outer planetary gear sets each having a sun gear, a ring gear and a carrier having planet gears in constant mesh with the sun and ring gears wherein the ring gear of the inner gear set is also the sun gear of the outer gear set and the outer carrier is the assembly housing. The sun gear is disposed on a transmission shaft having lubrication passages which aligns with pluralities of radial openings in a hub housing. A circular plate or guide adjacent one side of the housing includes channels which align with the openings and functions as a lubrication director, channeling lubrication from the transmission shaft and the pluralities of radial openings in the housing hub to the outer bearings, shafts and planet gears.

Stacked planetary gear assembly with improved lubrication

A variator assembly for a CVT or an IVT includes an input shaft that defines an axis of rotation, an input disc rotationally coupled to the input shaft and coaxial with the axis of rotation, and an output disc rotationally coupled to the input disc and coaxial with the axis of rotation. The output disc includes a distal portion having an axial width. A gear is connected to the distal portion of the output disc. The gear has a plurality of gear teeth each having a gear tooth face width that is greater than the axial width of the distal portion of the output disc.

A CVT is provided that includes an input member, an output member, an input disk rotationally coupled to the input member, an output disk having an output gear, a roller disposed between the input disk and the output disk and configured to transfer torque from the input disk to the output disk, a counter gear intermeshed with the output gear, and a planetary gear set connected to the output member. The planetary gear set includes a ring gear, a carrier member, and a sun gear. The ring gear is rotationally coupled to the counter gear. The counter gear and the planetary gear set are co-planar with the output disk.
