Integrated additive manufacturing and laser processing systems and methods for ceramic, glass, and silicon carbide applications

A pH micro-probe, a temperature micro-probe, and an immuno-based micro-probe each include a shaft for transmuting an input light signal and a tip for inserting into a cell or other substance for measuring pH, temperature, and/or antigens. The pH micro-probe and the temperature micro-probe each include a luminescent material positioned on the tip of the micro-probe. The light signal excites the luminescent material so that the luminescent material emits a luminescent light signal. The luminescent light signal has a property value dependent on the pH or temperature being measured and reflects back through the shaft for being measured by a light signal measuring device. The immuno-based micro-probe includes a reflective material that has an effective refractive index dependent on the number of antigen-antibody bonds present on the reflective material.

Fiber-optic micro-probes for measuring acidity level, temperature, and antigens

Devices, systems, and methods provide direct digitization and encoding of a parameter to be sensed or measured. Digitized readings are encoded into binary bits, which are acquired and handled by digital devices. An all-digital sensing device can be implemented in passive, active, or semi-passive forms, and in some embodiments includes a transducer, digitizer/encoder, reader, and transmitter. A transducer converts the parameter to be measured into a digitizable quantity, based on such as mechanical deformation, dielectric properties, or electromagnetic wave or acoustic-wave properties. A piezoelectric material transducer converts stress/pressure into resistance or voltage. A fiber-optic interferometer transducer converts pressure/temperature/PH into irradiation amplitude or wavelength shift in spectrum domain. Encoded binary or quasi-binary states are identified by a reader. Binary states have resolutions arranged according to a 2format. Each binary state can be presented in mechanical, electromagnetic, optical, or acoustic forms, or in step or continuous form.

All-digital sensing device and implementation method

An optical carrier based microwave interferometry (OCMI) system for measuring a physical, chemical, or biological property broadly comprises an optical carrier signal source, a waveguide, a microwave envelope signal source, a microwave modulator, an optical interferometer, a detector, and an analyzer. An optical carrier signal is modulated with a microwave envelope signal and transmitted through an optical interferometer. The optical signal is interrogated in microwave domain to obtain interference patterns or absorption/emission spectra corresponding to the physical, chemical, or biological property being measured.

Optical carrier based microwave interferometric system and method

A device and method include a broadband light source in communication with a waveguide to provide a light signal for interrogating each of a plurality for sensors within the waveguide. An analyzer modulates the light signal with a microwave signal and demodulates and evaluates light signals reflected by the sensors. An amplitude and a phase of each reflected signal from each sensor is distinguished in the time domain and the modulated signal is reconstructed in the frequency domain.

Distributed microwave Fabry-Perot interferometer device and method

A microresonator structure comprises a waveguide and a microsphere. The waveguide is of elongated cylindrical shape and includes a first section of optical transmission material and a cavity section axially aligned with the first section. The cavity section includes a first cavity and a second cavity. The first cavity is adjacent to the first section and includes a first sidewall of optical transmission material with an inner surface that tapers inward to an apex positioned adjacent to the first section. The second cavity is positioned adjacent to the first cavity of hollow cylindrical shape and includes a circumferential second sidewall of optical transmission material that abuts the first sidewall. The microsphere has a spherical outer surface and is positioned within the cavity section such that the outer surface contacts a portion of the first sidewall and a portion of the second sidewall.

Capillary wall coupled whispering gallery mode microresonator

A coaxial cable sensor device with periodic impedance discontinuities along the length of its cable. The cable comprises an inner conductor, insulating material disposed around the length of the inner conductor, and an outer conductor disposed around the insulating material. The periodic impedance discontinuities are created by physical deformations or material alterations to at least one of the inner conductor, the outer conductor, and the insulating material. The sensor device may be used to measure temperature, pressure, strain, and acoustic waves in building structures, and is well suited for down-hole or underwater applications.
