Systems, methodologies, and devices are described that facilitate filtering content sent to a mobile device(s) by a content provider via a core network. A content provider can determine a content rating for content, and/or the core network and/or mobile device can determine or infer a content rating for unrated content from a content provider, based in part on predefined content rating criteria. A mobile device user can specify a desired content rating preference for the mobile device. A filter(s) respectively associated with the core network and/or mobile device can filter the content based in part on the content rating of the content and the content rating preference of the mobile device to which the content is being sent. Content that does not meet a content rating threshold can be filtered out and stored in a secure content folder accessible using a security code or discarded.

Rating of message content for content control in wireless devices

Techniques for filtering broadcast SMS messages at a mobile station based on network configuration, user configuration, and/or user preferences. In one method, a broadcast message is initially received, and one or more filtering criteria are applied to the received broadcast message. The filtering criteria are defined by settings stored in a removable module (e.g., the R-UIM) coupled to the receiver. The received broadcast message is then processed if it is not filtered out by the one or more filtering criteria. The one or more filtering criteria may include (1) those imposed by a service provider and defined in a network configuration setting, (2) those determined by the mobile user and defined in a user configuration setting, (3) those selected by the mobile user based on user preferences, which allow for filtering of broadcast messages based on service category, language, and priority, or (4) any combination of the above.

Filtering of broadcast SMS messages

Apparatus and methods of differentiated data session access on a wireless communication device and dynamic source determination of provisioning information on a wireless communication device are disclosed. User Identity Modules (UIMs) are provisioned such that network-service applications resident on the wireless device are associated with a corresponding application profile within the UIM. Each network-service application has a corresponding network address identifier defined within the user profile. The network address associated with the identifier is used to establish a data session for the corresponding network service application. By providing for application-specific network addresses, service providers and/or network operators can differentiate between what services a user is accessing during a data session. In addition, the UIMs may be provisioned with priority category identifiers that allow the associated network-service application to be prioritized for data session establishment.

Apparatus and methods associated with open market handsets

Techniques to send GSM CBS messages over a CDMA air interface. The encapsulation of a GSM CBS message in CDMA messages may be achieved using various schemes. An indication is provided at each of a number of pertinent layers to allow the terminals to determine whether a GSM CBS message or a CDMA broadcast SMS message was sent. These indications include (1) a value in a designated field or subfield of a Data Burst Message, (2) a new value for a Category field in a Service Category parameter of an SMS Broadcast Message, and (3) a new value for a Msg_Encoding field in a User Data subparameter of the SMS Deliver Message.

GSM cell broadcast SMS message transmission in CDMA communication systems

A method, apparatus, and computer-readable media for sending a message from a multi-mode wireless device in a multiple communication mode environment. A preferred communication mode is selected from a plurality of communication modes supported by the wireless device. A preferred message service is selected based on contents of the message and the preferred communication mode. Then, compatibility of the preferred message service with an active communication mode of the wireless device is determined. If the preferred message service is compatible with the active communication mode, the message is sent by using the preferred service according to the active communication mode.

Method and apparatus for sending a message from a wireless device

Systems, apparatus and methods are described that provide for dynamic source determination of provisioning information on a per-network service basis for open market wireless devices. Specifically, systems, apparatus and methods provide for the open market wireless devices and/or the users of such devices to acquire provisioning information for network services in instances in which neither the removable module currently associated with the device or the non-removable memory of the open market wireless device store the provisioning information for the desired network service. In this regard, present aspects provide for a prompt, such as a user notification to presented on an output mechanism of the wireless device when the wireless determines first that the provisioning information is not stored on the removable module and, secondly, that the provisioning information is not stored on the non-removable data storage of the device.

Methods and apparatus for dynamic source determination of provisioning information on a per-network service basis for open market wireless devices

Methods and systems for sending, receiving, storing, and reading CDMA type SMS messages on wireless non-CDMA or multimode mobile devices include embedding a CDMA SMS message in a non-CDMA SMS host message. Such a host message may be created, transmitted, received, or otherwise processed by a mobile device, such as one operating in a GSM or UMTS mode. Similarly a CDMA SMS message may be stored in a SIM/USIM module using similar techniques. An embodiment provides a software application programming interface (API) which transparently processes SMS messages regardless of whether they are CDMA or non-CDMA and regardless of the operating mode of the mobile device.

Providing transparent CDMA short message service using non-CDMA mobile devices, smart cards and networks

A method includes receiving a broadcast message at a receiver device. The message includes identification information identifying a message-type associated with the message, reply-to information, and user information. The method further includes determining the received message is a broadcast message based on the message-type of the message and determining the message includes the reply-to information describing a reply-to address. The method additionally includes passing the user information contained within the message to a user interface when the message is a broadcast message including reply-to information and receiving an instruction from the user interface. The instruction is based on the user information and user input responsive to the user information. The method further includes producing and sending a reply message addressed to the reply-to address responsive to the instruction.

Replying to an SMS broadcast message

Techniques to manage the display of information for multiple voice and/or data calls in wireless devices. The techniques can manage a summary of all calls that are in progress and detailed information for individual calls. In one method, summary information is initially provided (e.g., to a display) for the multiple calls. The summary information may include, for example, the type and status of each call. An indication is then received to view detailed information for a selected call. In response, the detailed information for the selected call is provided. The detailed information for the selected call may include, for example, the caller name, call number, call duration, and so on. The detailed information for a data call may indicate various attributes for the data call (e.g., data rate, connection status, activity, service type, billing information, and so on).

Multi-call display management for wireless communication devices

A method, apparatus, and computer-readable media for routing a message service message in a wireless device is disclosed. According to a method, routing messages in a wireless device includes receiving routing preferences from one or more applications operating with a wireless device. The method further includes receiving a message, and routing the message to designated locations for the one or more applications. The locations may include an application or set of applications, or a memory unit associated with one or more applications. Another method includes determining a routing parameter from the message by parsing at least one routing parameter from message content. Routing the message further includes comparing the at least one routing parameter with the routing preferences.

Method and apparatus for routing messages of different message services in a wireless device

To provide 'transparent' broadcast services for a multi-mode wireless device capable of communicating with multiple wireless communication networks, a composite set of pertinent parameters for broadcast messages used by the multiple networks is defined. The parameters of the broadcast message for each network are mapped to corresponding parameters in the composite set. The composite set of parameters is used for processing and displaying broadcast messages received from the multiple networks. A broadcast message for each network (e.g., a CBS message in GSM or a broadcast SMS message in CDMA) is received and processed in accordance with the parameters of the message and filtering configurations applicable for the network. The parameters of the broadcast message are mapped to corresponding parameters in the composite set. The broadcast message is further processed and displayed based on the parameters in the composite set.

Transparent broadcast services for a multi-mode wireless device

Techniques for conveying reports for SMS messages in wireless communication networks that utilize CDMA air interface (e.g., GSM1x and CDMA networks). Two new messages SMS Deliver Report Message and SMS Submit Report Message are defined for CDMA SMS. These report messages may be used to more fully convey the information in the SMS-Deliver-Report TPDU and SMS-Submit-Report TPDU defined in GSM SMS. A new Report_Req field is also provided in the Reply Option subparameter of the SMS Deliver Message and SMS Submit Message defined in CDMA SMS. This new field may be used to request a report for an SMS message to be sent by the message's recipient. Each report message may include (1) a first value indicative of whether the SMS message was received correctly or in error, (2) a second value indicative of a type of error, if any, encountered for the SMS message, and (3) user data.

Method and apparatus for conveying reports for SMS messages in wireless communication systems

A method, apparatus, and computer-readable media for accessing supplementary services from a wireless device in a multi-mode environment is disclosed. A master set of service codes for the multi-mode environment is provided. The master set of service codes is associated with supplementary services offered by a plurality of wireless networks that are compatible with the wireless device. At least one service code from the master set of service codes is mapped to a corresponding at least one network-specific service code to request at least one supplementary service of one of the plurality of wireless networks.
