In a handwriting recognition method applied in an electronic device with touch screen and display screen, a handwriting input area and a handwriting display area are shown on a touch screen when a handwriting command is given. The handwriting of a complete or partial word in the handwriting input area is recognized and displayed and a new handwriting input area can be added when a preset slide operation is applied that the tracing of a handwritten character collides with a boundary of the input area. Handwriting in the new handwriting input area is recognized and displayed and the content of the original handwriting input area and of the new handwriting input area are combined to form a complete word when the handwriting input is finished. The complete word is then displayed.

If yes, recognize and display the letters associated with the handwritten input and determine whether the input region receives another handwritten input during a predefined time duration. If yes, determine the sting of letters associated with the handwritten input is a first portion of a complete word, and the sting of letters associated with the another handwritten input is a last portion of the complete word. Combine the first portion and the last portion into a complete word. display letters of the first portion and the last portion in a substantially same size.

An electronic device includes a storage unit, a touch display unit and a central processing unit. The central processing unit includes a control module, a searching module, and a spit-screen module. The control module generates a first window on the touch display unit to display a text document when the text document is opened, and determines a selected text of the displayed text document by a user according to touch positions when the touch display unit is touched. The searching module searches occurrences of the selected text in the text document, and the control module stores the searched text in the storage unit. The spit-screen module displays each occurrence of the selected text on a second window produced thereby with a size thereof smaller than that of the first window. A related method is also provided.
