A spade bit includes a shaft defining an axis about which the spade bit is configured to be rotated. The space bit also includes a blade attached to the shaft and having a first paddle portion and a second paddle portion. In addition, the spade bit includes a tip portion attached to the blade and aligned with the axis. The first paddle portion includes (i) a first leading end portion positioned on a first side of the axis and configured to define a first cutting edge portion, and (ii) a first lateral extension portion configured to define a first sloping surface. The first paddle portion defines a first relief space positioned adjacent to both the first sloping portion and the first leading end portion. The second paddle portion includes (i) a second leading end portion positioned on an opposite second side of the axis and configured to define a second cutting edge portion, and (ii) a second lateral extension portion configured to define a second sloping surface. The second paddle portion defines a second relief space positioned adjacent to both the second sloping portion and the second leading end portion.

A cutting bit adapted to cut wood or metal is disclosed. The cutting bit is prepared by a process which includes the step of performing a forming operation on a metal blank so as to create a formed metal part that includes (i) a shaft having a polygonal shaped drive surface and defining an axis, (ii) a body having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of the body being attached to the shaft, the body further having a first shoulder and a second shoulder at the distal end thereof, the first shoulder defining a first cutting edge segment, and the second shoulder defining a second cutting edge segment, the axis extending between the first cutting edge segment and the second cutting edge segment, (iii) a central cutting member extending from the body so that the central cutting member is aligned with the axis, (iv) a first cutting spur extending from the distal end of the body, the first cutting edge segment being interposed between the first cutting spur and the axis, and (v) a second cutting spur extending from the distal end of the body, the second cutting edge segment being interposed between the second cutting spur and the axis. The process of preparing the cutting bit further includes the step of performing a carburization operation on the formed metal part after the first step so as to create the cutting bit. The cutting bit is particularly useful in performing a drilling operation on a metal construction wall stud to form a hole therein.

A drill bit for a boring tool comprises a shank configured for engagement with the boring tool and a working tip having a first end attached to the shank and an opposite second end, and a conical helical thread extending substantially continuously from end to end. The thread root may include a rounded portion while the crest may be flat. The configuration of the helical thread, such as the crest width, thread depth, thread angle, cross sectional area and base width are adjusted as a function of the length of the threaded working tip to maximize bending strength and optimize thread wear and operability.

A router table clamp system for attaching a router to a router table, wherein the system includes a first plate that is fixed with respect to the router table, a second plate that is configured to cooperate with the first plate to enable the router to be removably attached to the router table, and a clamping mechanism configured and arranged to move the second plate with respect to the first plate between a locked position and an unlocked position, wherein when the clamping mechanism is in the locked position, the router is securely attached to the router table. The clamping mechanism also includes a lever assembly configured and arranged to move the second plate in a locking direction and an unlocking direction, which directions are both generally coincident with a plane defined by the second plate, wherein the locking direction is opposite of the unlocking direction.

A bit including a shaft defining an axis about which the bit is configured to be rotated. The bit further includes a blade having a first end attached to the shaft and an opposite second end, the blade further having (i) a first blade portion including a first shoulder defining a first cutting edge portion at the second end of the blade, and (ii) a second blade portion including a second shoulder defining a second cutting edge portion at the second end of the blade. A tool bit providing a combined drill bit and reamer is disclosed herein. The tool bit comprises an axial bit shaft including a bore end and a shank end. At least one helical land portion is provided on the bit shaft. The at least one helical land portion includes a cutting edge and a trailing edge. At least one reamer blade is provided on the helical land portion at the bore end of the bit shaft. The at least one reamer blade includes a substantially axial cutting edge. A tip arrangement is also included on the bore end of the bit shaft. The tip arrangement includes a center blade positioned between peripheral cutting blades.
