The present invention relates to improved compositions of SSBR rubber. The improved compositions exhibit sufficient or improved balance of characteristics such as rolling resistance, HBU, abrasion, grip, and/or tear. The compositions may be made in an efficient, cost-effective manner.

Styrene butadiene rubber with novel styrene incorporation

The present invention describes a composition comprising a diene-based rubber and at least one cyclo-aliphatic epoxide-based polyether or polyglycol ether. The present invention also describes a composition comprising at least one extending oil and at least one cyclo-aliphatic epoxide-based polyether or polyglycol ether, wherein the at least one extending oil is selected from the group consisting of an aromatic oil, an aliphatic oil, a naphthenic oil, and mixtures thereof.

Oil extended rubber compositions

A method for increasing the monomer conversion in a redox initiated emulsion polymerization has been discovered. The method comprises adding a composition comprising an effective amount of a substituted phenol to the polymerization medium. In this manner, high monomer conversion is obtained and the product has low gel contents and a low amount or no crosslinking.

Increased monomer conversion in emulsion polymerization

The invention provides a process for polymerizing a polymer comprising monomeric units derived from styrene and 1,3-butadiene, said process comprising: A) adding less than 60 weight percent of the total amount of the butadiene used in the polymerization, to a reactor comprising the total amount of styrene used in the polymerization and solvent; B) adding at least one initiator to the reactor, and allowing the reaction to proceed for a time t; C) adding the remaining amount of butadiene to the reactor in two or more separate additions; and wherein for each butadiene addition, the amount of subsequent butadiene added is less than, or equal to, the amount of butadiene added in the immediately prior addition; and wherein for each butadiene addition, the butadiene is added over a time, t, and after each addition, the reaction is allowed to proceed for a time, t, wherein n is the number of the butadiene addition, and for each addition, n is independently greater than, or equal to, 1.
