An electrolytic device and to a method for operating an electrolysis of water with at least one electrolysis cell, the electrolysis cell having an anode compartment having an anode and a cathode compartment having a cathode. The anode compartment is separated from the cathode compartment by a proton exchange membrane. The anode compartment is suitable for holding water and oxidising the water on the anode to form a first product including oxygen and the cathode compartment is suitable for holding water and reducing the water on the cathode to a second product including hydrogen. Furthermore, the electrolysis device includes a first gas precipitation device for precipitation of oxygen, the first gas precipitation device for carrying out a natural water circulation being arranged above the electrolysis cell.

Electrolysis unit and electrolyser

The present disclosure relates to membranes for use in electrolysis systems. The teachings thereof may be embodied in a method for checking a membrane of an electrolyzer comprises two volumes separated by the membrane and produces two product gases from a starting liquid. The method may include: detecting an electrolysis current strength during electrolysis, measuring a liquid flow rate of the starting liquid between the two electrolyzer volumes, calculating a ratio of the measured liquid flow rate and the detected electrolysis current strength, and using the calculated ratio as an indication of membrane leaktightness.

Electrolysis membrane systems and methods

An electrolytic cell, a method for manufacturing the cell, and a method of operating same. The electrolytic cell has at least two bipolar plates, at least one fluid inflow and outflow, as well as at least one laminated core arranged between the at least two bipolar plates. The laminated core is constructed from laminations which are stacked one on top of the other. At least two laminations have recesses which are designed to extend through the entire thickness of the respective lamination. The at least two laminations are arranged one on top of the other in such a way that recesses in adjacent laminations overlap partially, but not completely, as a result of which ducts, which are continuous in the direction of the plane of the lamination, are formed.
