A system includes a processor configured to receive vehicle GPS coordinates. The processor is also configured to compare the received GPS coordinates to known device coordinates. Further, the processor is configured to page a vehicle computing system, requesting connection, if the vehicle coordinates and the known device coordinates are within a predetermined proximity and connect to the vehicle upon receipt of a response message from the vehicle.

Method and apparatus for vehicle and mobile device coordination

A vehicle computer system (VCS) configured to communicate with one or more mobile devices, comprising a first processor configured to automatically create a priority list by utilizing one or more factors associated with communication activity between the vehicle computer system and the one or more mobile devices, wherein the priority list includes instructions to pair one or more mobile devices with the VCS and indicates the order of connecting to the one or more mobile devices. The vehicle computer system also includes a wireless transceiver including a second processor configured to receive the priority list from the first processor and establish a wireless connection with one or more mobile devices based on the priority list.

Apparatus of paging mobile devices

A vehicle computer system configured to communicate with a mobile device, comprising a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with the mobile device. The vehicle computer system also includes a processor in communication with the wireless transceiver and memory. The processor is configured to monitor activity occurring at the wireless transceiver, receive a message from the wireless transceiver that includes information related to one or more software states of the wireless transceiver, determine an error has occurred at the wireless transceiver, save the information related to the one or more software states of the wireless transceiver in the memory, and send the information related to the one or more software states.

Apparatus and method of error monitoring with a diagnostic module

A vehicle computer system (VCS) configured to communicate with a mobile device, comprising a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with the mobile device. The VCS also includes a VCS software stack configured to interact with a mobile device software stack and a processor configured to receive a message from the mobile device indicating a version of the mobile device software stack. The processor is also configured to determine if the VCS needs an update to the VCS software stack based at least upon the version of the mobile device software stack, download an update to the VCS software stack from an off-board server, update the VCS to include the updated VCS software stack, and communicate with the mobile device utilizing the updated VCS software stack.

Apparatus and method of software implementation between a vehicle and mobile device

A system includes a processor configured to detect a primary vehicle emergency-state. The processor is also configured to determine that emergency-services communication through an on-board device is not possible. Further, the processor is configured to search for a secondary vehicle having vehicle-to-vehicle communication capabilities. The processor is additionally configured to send an emergency-services request to the secondary vehicle to establish communication with the secondary vehicle and send prioritized emergency data to the secondary vehicle.
