Logic may provide a deformity analysis to create a treatment plan for external fixators. Logic may further perform additional refinements to the treatment plan to improve the patient experience. Logic may further include pre-operative osteotomy to select an osteotomy and to provide real-time updates to a post-operative image based on changes to an osteotomy line, orientation, and/or rotation point. Logic may facilitate movement of one or two portions of a medical image to determine an alignment of bone segments in the portions of the medical image. Logic may generate deformity parameters based on a combination of translations and/or rotations of the movement to align the portions. Logic may create a treatment plan including a prescription for an external fixator based on deformity parameters.

Methods and arrangements for external fixators

A method including: determining a configuration for an orthopedic device to attach with bone segments, the orthopedic device including a proximal ring, a distal ring, and adjustable struts interconnecting the proximal ring and the distal ring; receiving input data for anatomy and boundaries for attachment of the orthopedic device with the bone segments; receiving input data for a level and a position for the proximal ring; determining a number and type of the transosseous elements for attachment of the orthopedic device; determining a final level and position for the distal ring; accessing a data structure including fixations for the transosseous elements; accessing a data structure including reference levels and positions for attachment of transosseous elements to the bone segments; and automatically determining levels and positions for the transosseous elements and the distal ring to avoid impingement of fixations and transosseous elements with struts of the orthopedic device.

Automated transosseous element planning for orthopedic devices

An adjustment compliance device and systems and methods for use with an external fixator are disclosed. The adjustment compliance device can be attached to a strut of an external fixator and may include at least one indicator element to indicate adjustment parameters for an active step of an adjustment process for the external fixator. The adjustment parameters may include an active strut and/or a direction of adjustment for the strut. The adjustment compliance device may receive the adjustment parameters from a user device. The at least one indicator element may include a light element operative to emit light in a color corresponding to the active strut. The at least one indicator element may include a light element configured to indicate a direction of rotation of the active strut. As a result, a patient can more effectively comply with an adjustment prescription, thereby improving the likelihood of successful bone alignment.

Device for indicating an active component of an adjustable medical apparatus

A reconfigurable bone adjustment device () includes a first member () configured for attachment to a first bone fragment, a second member () configured for attachment to a second bone fragment and a reconfiguration assembly () configured to move the second member relative to the first member. The reconfiguration assembly includes a drive mechanism () and a threaded rod () operatively coupled to the drive mechanism so that rotation of the drive mechanism rotates the threaded rod. The reconfiguration assembly operates to reduces stresses, forces, bending moments and/or eccentric moments on a junction and/or by configuring the junction in a manner whereby one of more of the forces, is isolated away from the junction.

Implantable bone adjustment devices

An intramedullary bone transport nail configured for axial bone segment transport by an externally applied magnetic field includes a nail body defining an internal chamber; locking portions for locking respective ends of the nail body in first and second bone fragments of a long bone, respectively; and a transport carriage assembly that is arranged in an axially movable manner within the internal chamber of the nail body and has an aperture for accommodating a transport bone segment screw for fixing a middle bone segment of the long bone to the bone transport carriage. The nail body defines an elongated longitudinal opening to allow axial motion of the transport bone segment screw as the transport carriage assembly moves axially by rotation of a threaded rod affixed to a magnetic driver. Rotation of the threaded rod is achieved by application of torque to the magnetic driver by a rotating external magnetic field.

A reconfigurable bone adjustment device includes a first member configured for attachment to a first bone fragment, a second member configured for attachment to a second bone fragment, the second member including an elongated slot formed therein; a drive mechanism configured to move the second member relative to the first member; a threaded block fixedly coupled to the first member, the threaded block positioned within the elongated slot; and a threaded rod having a proximal end operatively coupled to the drive mechanism, an intermediate portion threadably coupled to the threaded block, and a distal end operatively coupled to the second member so that rotation of the drive mechanism rotates the threaded rod and moves the second member relative to the first member. The second member being adapted and configured to provide increased strength so that the device can withstand increased patient weight bearing.

A reconfigurable bone adjustment device includes a first member configured for attachment to a first bone fragment, portion, etc., a second member configured for attachment to a second bone fragment, portion, etc., a drive mechanism configured to move the second member relative to the first member, a threaded rod having a proximal end operatively coupled to the drive mechanism and a distal end operatively coupled to the second member so that rotation of the drive mechanism rotates the threaded rod and moves the second member relative to the first member, and a dynamic segment positioned between the first and second members to enable compression of the second member relative to the first member to stimulate bone growth. The dynamic segment may be a silicone/rubber compressible member or assembly, a metallic spring, a non-metallic shock absorbing material or washer, or the like.

A bone adjustment device such as, for example, an intramedullary lengthening nail may include a first or outer body portion having a notch, a second or inner body portion, a threaded shaft coupled to the first body portion to rotate relative thereto, an inner magnet received by the first body portion and coupled to the threaded shaft for rotation therewith, and a threaded block positioned in the notch, the threaded block having internal threads, the threaded shaft passing through the threaded block and threadedly engaging with the internal threads. Various reconfiguration assembly embodiments include welding the threaded block to the first body portion, the notch being located a distance from the distal end of the first body portion, an overlapping arrangement between the first body portion and the second body portion, and a collar positioned over the first body portion.
