An electronic sewing machine is provided with an electronic memory and electronic circuit capable of producing auto-data for controlling the needle lateral amplitude and the fabric feed to thereby form respective stitch patterns of an automatically controlled size, and manual signals acting on the auto-data for manually adjusting the needle lateral amplitude and the fabric feed in response to operation of adjusting dials arranged on a front panel of the machine. The manual signals can be produced separately for adjusting the needle lateral amplitude and the fabric feed independently from each other to thereby stitch a deformed configuration of the stitch pattern, but the machine is so designed that the needle lateral amplitude and the fabric feed are simultaneously adjusted by one and the same manual signal in response to operation of one of the adjusting dials for proportionally enlarging or reducing the automatically controlled size of the stitch pattern with its configuration being unchanged.

An electronically controlled sewing machine includes an electronic memory storing a plurality of stitch control data for respective stitch patterns, including a darning pattern composed of a number of vertical straight stitch lines sequentially produced in forward and reverse fabric feeding directions. A number of signals which are generated each time a fabric penetrating needle ascends above the fabric between the first stitch and the last stitch of each vertical straight stitch line of the darning pattern, are counted up by a counter to produce a corresponding value signal. The latter signal is compared with another value signal latched in a latch circuit in response to operation of a turning point designating switch adapted to designate a number of stitches for each vertical straight stitch line of the darning pattern. When the value signals coincide with each other, the count-up operation of the counter is reset for producing a subsequent vertical straight stitch line.

In an electronic pattern stitch sewing machine, lock stitches are produced prior to the initial and final stitch of a selected pattern without deforming the patterns. In this machine, under single setting operation conditions the setting of desired sewing parameters is made automatically for a basting operation.

A stitch pattern sewing machine utilizes a microcomputer which operates in a stitch control mode and in a malfunction diagnosing mode. Each mode is selectively rendered effective by a changeover switch. The diagnosis of malfunction includes a series of checking steps carried out in a predetermined order. Indication means are selectively illuminated to operate in either one of the two modes in dependence upon the position of the changeover switch.

A speed-control circuit for a motor of the sewing machine is disclosed. The circuit includes a controller, thyristors for controlling the rotation of the motor in dependence upon the operation of the controller, operational amplifiers activated in dependence upon the operation of the controller to produce a speed designating voltage, a frequency - voltage converter which receives a frequency representing the speed of rotation of the main shaft of the sewing machine, a comparator for comparing that speed designating voltage with the voltage of the frequency-voltage converter to detect a motor drive phase, and a light emitting diode and a phototransistor activated by the motor drive phase and operative for controlling the ignition phase of those thyristors.

In a stitch control process of the sewing machine which employs a microcomputer with an electronic memory storing stitch control signals and a needle position control motor and a fabric feed control motor, the microcomputer controls the needle position and the fabric feed control motors at certain rotation phases of the sewing machine. The microcomputer temporarily holds, during the operation of the sewing machine, the needle and feed control data and the feed control amount based on the feed control data which are read out in each phase and calculates the addition of the feed control amount and the needle control amount based on the needle control data which is read out at the following phase. A sewing machine has a rotatable shaft for operating a stitch forming device, and includes a feed dog for feeding fabric to be sewn, and a needle for forming stitches in the fabric. The machine comprises a first electronic memory for storing stitch control data and including at least the needle position control data for different patterns; pattern selecting element for reading the first memory stitch control data for a selected pattern; timing element operated synchronously with the shaft to produce a timing signal for progressively reading the stitch control data from the first memory; stitch mode changing switch element for determining an elongation rate of a selected pattern to be elongated in a fabric feeding direction; second memory element for temporarily storing designated stitch control data of the first memory element; counter element for counting the ordinals of the stitches of the selected pattern in relation to the timing signals and in accordance with the pattern elongation rate to thereby designate the pattern elongation rate and the stitch control data to be stored into the second memory element progressively during formation of the stitches of the pattern; and calculating element operable with respect to the counter element (CT1, CT2) to make a calculation to produce second stitches between the first stitches formed by the stitch control data.

A driving system for a pulse motor, particularly of a sewing machine, includes an electronic memory for determining the time series of drive pulses to control the speed of the pulse motor according to a number of moving steps. The system is provided with a number of calculating devices operated in accordance with calculating formulas reflecting the functions of the number of stepping pulses to control the stepping speed of the pulse motor in accordance with the number of steps needed by the pulse motor to move a given distance.
