A cushion, mattress or mattress section for a convertible furniture article defines a plurality of apertures, such as slits or slots or recesses, extending into or through the cushion or mattress section that are cut in a direction at an angle to the first length of the mattress section. The cushion or mattress section expands from its first length to a second length that is longer than the first length upon applying a stretching force to the cushion or mattress section and thereby positioning the mattress section into the open or sleeping configuration. Expansion is due to resilience of the material forming the mattress or mattress section in combination with opening of the apertures. The sleeping surface of the mattress or mattress section may remain substantially planar in both the open (sleeping) position and closed (seating) position.

Convertible furniture with selectively expandable mattress cushion section(s)

A sofa-bed has: a frame with opposing arms; a seat; a subseat hinged to the seat; a connecting rod that pivotally interconnects the subseat and the backrest; pairs of center legs and end legs pivotally attached to, respectively, the subseat and seat; and mechanisms for folding and unfolding the center and end legs. The sofa-bed is movable between a folded position and an unfolded position. The mechanisms for the center legs and the end legs are configured to move the legs from a generally horizontal folded position between the seat and subseat when the sofa-bed is in the folded position to a generally upright position beneath, respectively, the subseat and seat when the bed is in the unfolded position.

Convertible sofa-bed

A furniture piece including a plurality of rib units, each-rib unit having a pair of substantially parallel faces, at least one functional surface, and a leg or supporting member. When arranged in a predetermined, face-to-face relationship and secured by one or more connecting rods, the functional surface of each rib unit defines a surface of a furniture piece, such as a chair or bench seat, while each leg or supporting member is offset from the neighboring leg or support member according to a pattern which, when combined with the legs or supporting members of the other rib units, provides support for the entire furniture piece and its occupant.

An improved seat-bed assembly providing a seat unit and a back frame support, both of which are interconnected by a controlled linkage that, coupled with a guided movement of the back frame support, will convert the assembly from a seat form to a full length bed. Pivotal withdrawal of the seat unit from the assembly will, through a drag link arrangement, pivot the back frame support through a guided path into a bed forming position with the now extended seat unit.

Seat-bed conversion assembly

A convertible table is comprised of a central planar section and two end sections. The end sections are hingedly secured to the central planar section for rotation thereabout. Each end section has a pair of legs fixedly secured thereto. The legs are not capable of movement with respect to the end sections, but rotate with the end sections. Utilizing the aforementioned approach, a number of table designs are possible. For example, to facilitate folding, the pair of legs attached to one end section may have a greater distance therebetween than does the pair of legs attached to the other end section. In this manner, when the end sections are folded to a position perpendicular to the central planar section, a coffee table, or cocktail table or the like having a lower overall height is formed. The end sections support the central planar section and also form two sides of the table. The legs form the other two sides of the table and may also support the central planar section.
