Improved process for making carboxyalkylated alkyl polyether surfactants with narrow polyethoxy chain distributions using approximately equimolar ratios of alcohol and alkali metal or alkali metal hydride catalyst. The products are useful in making improved carboxyalkylated alkyl polyether surfactants having specific narrow ranges of ethoxylation and containing less than about 6% fatty alcohol. A process for producing a spray-dried detergent composition containing a water-insoluble aluminosilicate. Sodium carbonate and a water-soluble salt of an organic compound having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms substituted with a sulfate or sulfonate group and at least one carboxyl group are added to an aqueous slurry containing the aluminosilicate and an organic detergent. Granules produced by spray-drying the aqueous slurry are crisp and free-flowing.

Water-insoluble aluminosilicate-containing detergent composition

Detergent compositions containing water-insoluble aluminosilicate ion exchange materials, organic surface-active agents and a minor amount of silicate solids. The aminosilicate ion exchange materials are characterized by the speed and efficiency with which they are capable of removing hardness ions from the washing liquor. A minor amount of sodium silicate solids is used to provide effective corrosion inhibition and crispness to the detergent granules. The instant compositions are capable of providing, during conventional laundry cleaning operations, superior performance, particularly appearance benefits resulting from their effective anti-deposition properties.
