A Microtiter plate centrifuge is disclosed. The centrifuge includes a motor assembly, a rotor assembly attached to the motor assembly via a shaft, the rotor assembly including at least two slots, symmetrically positioned, with respect to the shaft and a channel corresponding to each of said slots. The channels extending from the rotor assembly are suitable for holding Microtiter plates in a vertical position. Also included is a bottom plate engaging a brake pad, which when engaged creates sufficient friction to halt rotation of the rotor assembly.

A centrifuge rotor having a top surface, a bottom surface, side surface extending between the top and bottom surfaces, a centrally located bore for installing the rotor on a motor drive shaft of a centrifuge device, and at least one elongated aperture extending down and outwardly from the top surface of the rotor, the at least one elongated aperture for receiving a strip of interconnected centrifuge tubes. The rotor can also include an adapter for mounting the centrifuge tube strip in the at least one elongated aperture when the centrifuge tube strip is sized substantially smaller than the at least one elongated aperture.

A vacuum cleaner nozzle with a retractable brush having a plate carrying strips of bristles along the forward and rearward edge thereof and having leaf springs extending from one side and cam following members extending from the opposite side. A slide having camming members in engagement with the cam following members of the brush plate. The slide and brush plate are captured in a housing into which a conduit from the vacuum source extends through the housing and out of a sole plate, which is removably secured to the top plate and against which the brush plate leaf springs bear. Projections from the slide extend through the top of the housing and move the slide laterally in one direction to bring the brush through openings along the forward and rearward edges of the sole plate against the bias of the leaf springs to extend the brush. The projections move laterally in the opposite direction to permit the springs to retract the brush. Indentations at the opposite ends of a ramp provided by the cam follower member on the brush plate latch with the camming member on the slide so as to retain the brush plate with the brushes either in extended or retracted position.

Vacuum cleaner nozzle

A vacuum cleaner having the combined features of a canister and upright type vacuum cleaner with the canister mounted for tilting movement on a housing of a floor or nozzle unit which contains a rotatably mounted brush. A single motor is used to power a fan which creates the vacuum in the canister and to apply power to the brush through a belt and pulley assembly mounted in the floor unit housing. A hose extending from the canister is connectable and disconnectable from the floor unit housing so as to provide for above the floor cleaning when the hose is disconnected and the appropriate tools are attached thereto. When the hose is connected into the housing, the vacuum is applied to the vicinity of the brush. A mechanism for disengaging the motor from the belt and pulley assembly when above the floor cleaning is selected is provided by a cam member rotatable with the canister and a pulley asembly which is part of the belt/pulley brush drive assembly. The pulley assembly is movably mounted and biased in one direction by the belt. The cam member is engageable with the pulley assembly and moves it against the bias in the opposite direction to disengage it from the motor drive shaft. A switch is also mounted on the canister and is actuated from an 'off' position when the canister is upright to 'on' positions by a cam surface on the floor housing unit which is engageable with the switch such that the vacuum cleaner motor is 'off' when the canister is upright and 'on' when the canister is tilted forward and the brush is disconnected for above the floor cleaning operations or rearward when the motor shaft is in driving relationship with the belt/pulley assembly for floor cleaning operation.
