A cable includes a jacket defining an exterior of the cable and a rigid tube. The cable further includes densely-packed strength members on the outside of the rigid tube, compressed between the rigid tube and the jacket, and loosely-packed strength members on the inside of the rigid tube. Further the cable includes a core that is interior to the tube.

Fiber optic cable

A rugged micromodule cable includes central strength yarns, micromodules stranded around the central strength yarns, additional strength yarns positioned around the stranded micromodules, and a jacket of polymeric material surrounding the additional strength yarns. The micromodules each include sheathing surrounding a plurality of optical fibers. The strand profile of the micromodules is tight, having an average lay length of less than 250 mm, and the sheathing is thin-walled, having an average thickness of less than about 200 micrometers. The strand of the micromodules, the positioning of the additional strength yarns, and bonding between the additional strength yarns and the jacket mitigate lengthwise movement of the optical fibers in the rugged micromodule cable.

Rugged micromodule cable

Fiber optic assemblies include subunit cables wrapped in binders. The assemblies have small cross sections and low bend radii while maintaining acceptable attenuation losses. Stranding of the subunit cables allows ease of access to the individual cables during installation.

Fiber optic cables are disclosed that include at least one optical fiber and a flame-retardant cable jacket. The flame-retardant cable jacket has a cavity wherein the at least one optical fiber is disposed within the cavity. The flame-retardant cable jacket includes one or more flame-retardant additives and the flame-retardant cable jacket is essentially free of a water-soluble component that can dissolve and migrate into the cavity. By way of example, the flame-retardant cable jacket is a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) essentially free of ammonium octamolybdate. Other variations include fiber optic cables having a barrier layer for inhibiting the migration of water into a cable cavity.

Flame retardant fiber optic cables

A robust protective casing is provided that includes an inner tubing having a passageway therethrough, an outer tubing, and a plurality of flexible strength members disposed between the inner and outer tubing. The protective casing has a wall tubing thickness ratio of the inner tubing wall thickness to the outer tubing wall thickness of about 0.5 or less while still inhibiting the kinking of the protective casing during relatively small bend radii. Additionally, an outer diameter of the protective casing is relatively small while still allowing the routing of a standard sized 900 micron tight-buffered optical fiber through the passageway. Thus, the protective casing is advantageous in applications where limited space is available space. A fan-out assembly using the protective casings is also described.
