Adhesion promoter systems and methods of producing same, the systems including the admixing product of at least 60 percent by weight of a first functionalized polyolefin, and less than 40 percent by weight of a second functionalized polyolefin, based on the total weight of the solid content, and one or more solvents. The second functionalized polyolefin includes homopolymers of propylene or copolymers of propylene with hexene, octene and/or other alpha-olefins. The homopolymers or copolymers have a single unsaturation a terminal succinic anhydride moiety, and additional succinic anhydride substitutions on the polypropylene backbone. The succinic anhydride substitution ranges from about 5 to about 45 weight percent of second functionalized polyolefin.

Adhesion promoter system, and method of producing the same

The invention provides functionalized block composites and crystalline block composites. In particular, the invention provides a functionalized olefin-based polymer formed from at least (A) and (B): (A) a crystalline block composite comprising: a block copolymer comprising a propylene-based crystalline block and crystalline ethylene-based block; a propylene-based crystalline polymer; and, a crystalline ethylene-based polymer; and (B) at least one functionalization agent or a functionalized olefin-based polymer formed from at least (A) and (B): (A) a crystalline block composite comprising: a block copolymer comprising a propylene-based crystalline block and crystalline ethylene-based block; a propylene-based crystalline polymer; and, a crystalline ethylene-based polymer; and (B) at least one functionalization agent.

A method of making a composite membrane comprising the steps of forming a discriminating layer upon a surface of a porous support by sequentially applying immiscible coating solutions upon the support, wherein one coating solution comprises a crosslinking agent and another coating solution comprises a block copolymer, and the block copolymer comprises sacrificial segments and durable segments including reactive pendent groups which react with the crosslinking agent and form a crosslinked matrix comprising micro-domains of the sacrificial segments, and removing at least a portion of the sacrificial segments to yield pores.

Composite membrane

The invention provides functionalized block composites and crystalline block composites as compatibilizers. In particular, the invention provides compositions of at least three polymers and a compatibilizer. The compatibilizer comprises a functionalized olefin-based polymer formed from at least (A) and (B): (A) a crystalline block composite comprising: a block copolymer comprising a propylene-based crystalline block and crystalline ethylene-based block; a propylene-based crystalline polymer; and, a crystalline ethylene-based polymer; and (B) at least one functionalization agent or a functionalized olefin-based polymer formed from at least (A) and (B): (A) a crystalline block composite comprising: a block copolymer comprising a propylene-based crystalline block and crystalline ethylene-based block; a propylene-based crystalline polymer; and, a crystalline ethylene-based polymer; and (B) at least one functionalization agent.

Functionalized block composite and crystalline block composite compositions as compatibilizers

In one aspect the invention provides a melt process for preparing a functionalized olefin multiblock interpolymer, said process comprising grafting onto the backbone of the olefin multiblock interpolymer at least one compound comprising at least one 'amine-reactive' group to form a grafted olefin multiblock interpolymer, and reacting a primary-secondary diamine or an alkanolamine with the grafted olefin multiblock interpolymer, without the isolation of the grated olefin multiblock interpolymer.

Functionalized olefin polymers, compositions and articles prepared therefrom, and methods for making the same

The invention provides a composition comprising at least one olefin multi-block interpolymer; at least one functionalized olefin-based polymer; and optionally at least one thermoplastic polyurethane. The invention also provides for articles prepared from the inventive compositions and for methods for making the same.

Polyolefin compositions and articles prepared therefrom, and methods for making the same

The invention provides polyolefin blend compositions of polar and/or non-polar polymers, with at least one functionalized polyolefin polymer selected from the group consisting of: amine functionalized, hydroxyl functionalized, imide functionalized, anhydride functionalized, or carboxylic acid functionalized polyolefin polymers. The invention also provides methods for making the functionalized polyolefin polymer. The invention also provides for materials and articles containing at least one component prepared from such compositions.

In one aspect the invention provides a melt process for preparing a functionalized olefin multiblock interpolymer, said process comprising grafting onto the backbone of the olefin multiblock interpolymer at least one compound comprising at least one 'amine-reactive' group to form a grafted olefin multiblock interpolymer, and reacting a primary-secondary diamine or an alkanolamine with the grafted olefin multiblock interpolymer, without the isolation of the grafted olefin multiblock interpolymer.

Functionalized olefin polymers, compositions and articles prepared therefrom, and method of making the same

A monomer suitable for use in forming low dielectric constant films in semiconductor devices comprising i) two dienophile groups (A-functional groups) attached to a single aromatic ring and ii) a second ring structure comprising two conjugated carbon-to-carbon double bonds and a leaving group L (B-functional group), characterized in that said single aromatic ring is directly covalently attached to one of the double bonded carbons of the B functional group or to a fused aromatic ring containing two such double bonded carbons of the B-functional group, and one A-functional group of one monomer is capable of reaction under cycloaddition reaction conditions with the B-functional group of a second monomer to thereby form a polymer.

Multifunctional unsymmetrically substituted monomers and polyarylene compositions therefrom

The present invention includes a composition comprising a coupled impact propylene copolymer. Preferably, the coupled impact propylene copolymer has an elastomeric phase that is present in an amount of at least 9 weight percent of the coupled propylene copolymer. Articles formed from the coupled propylene copolymer exhibit improved directionally balanced impact properties as compared with articles formed form comparable noncoupled impact propylene copolymers and also exhibit improved ductile-to-brittle transition temperatures compared with comparable noncoupled impact propylene copolymers. The invention also includes methods for making the coupled impact propylene copolymers using coupling agents, preferably, poly(sulfonyl azides). The invention further includes articles of manufacture that are made from the coupled impact propylene copolymer of the invention.

Polyolefin composition with improved impact properties

Coupled polymers are prepared by a process comprising heating an admixture containing (1) at least one polyolefin comprising ethylene and optionally at least one comonomer and (2) a coupling amount at least one poly(sulfonyl azide) to at least the decomposition temperature of the poly(sulfonyl azide) for a period sufficient for decomposition of at least 80 weight percent of the poly(sulfonyl azide) and sufficient to result in a coupled polymer; particularly where the polyolefin is the product of polymerization of ethylene and optionally at least one other alpha-olefin in the presence of a single site catalyst.

Rheology modification of polymers prepared using metallocenes

The invention includes a process of reacting a poly(sulfonyl azide) with a polymer comprising steps (a) forming a first admixture of a first amount of a first polymer or in a liquid which does not require removal from the polymer and a poly(sulfonyl azide); (b) then forming a second admixture of the first admixture with a second amount of at least one second polymer; and (c) heating the second admixture at least to the decomposition temperature of the coupling agent for a time sufficient to result in coupling of polymer chains. The invention further includes all compositions obtainable by processes of the invention as well as blends of those compositions with one or more polymers of compositions different from the first or second polymer or the product of a process of the invention. Additionally the invention includes articles made from compositions of the invention, and shaping those articles particularly by processes which comprise shaping the compositions in a melted state into an article, more preferably when the process comprises thermoforming, injection molding, extrusion, casting, blow molding, foaming or blowing as well as the use of the compositions in those processes.

Process of rheology modification of polymers

The invention includes a process of preparing a coupled polymer comprising heating an admixture containing (1) at least one polyolefin comprising ethylene and optionally at least one comonomer which is selected from alpha olefins having at least 3 carbon atoms, dienes and combinations thereof said polyolefin having a molecular weight distribution of less than or equal to about 3 and (2) a coupling amount at least one poly(sulfonyl azide) to at least the decomposition temperature of the poly(sulfonyl azide) for a period sufficient for decomposition of at least about 80 weight percent of the poly(sulfonyl azide) and sufficient to result in a coupled polymer; particularly where the polyolefin is the product of polymerization of ethylene and optionally at least one other alpha-olefin in the presence of a single site catalyst (transition metal like Va or Cr, metallocene or constrained geometry). The amount of poly(sulfonyl azide) is preferably from about 0.01 to about 5 weight percent of the polyolefin. The poly(sulfonyl azide)and polyolefin preferably react at a temperature at least the decomposition temperature and greater than about 150&deg; C. The invention also includes any composition made by the process of the invention and any article made from the composition as well as processes for making the articles, particularly melt processing (especially where the article is formed from a melt of a composition of the invention), more preferably selected by molding, blow molding or extrusion blow molding the composition. The invention also includes the use of a composition of the invention in any of these processes.

The invention includes a process of preparing a coupled polymer characterized by heating an admixture containing (1) at least one ethylene polymer or blend of ethylene polymers having a density of at least about 0.89 g/mL and less than about 0.935 g/mL and a comonomer content between about 0.5 and 50 weight percent of an alpha olefin having greater than 2 and less than 20 carbon atoms per molecule and (2) a coupling amount of at least one poly(sulfonyl azide) to at least the decomposition temperature of the poly(sulfonyl azide) for a period sufficient for decomposition of at least about 80 weight percent of the poly(sulfonyl azide) and sufficient to result in a coupled polymer. The amount of poly(sulfonyl azide) is preferably from about 0.01 to about 5 weight percent of polymers in the admixture. The invention also includes any composition which is the product of any of the processes of the invention and articles made from those compositions, particularly any film of any composition of the invention. Additionally the invention includes a use of any composition of the invention in a process of blowing, casting or calendaring a film. More particularly the invention includes articles of compositions of the invention which are trash bags, agricultural films, construction films, or geomembranes, grocery sacks, sealant layers, tie layers, produce bags, garment bags, shipping sacks, medical films, stretch films, shrink films, agricultural films, greenhouse films, construction films, or stretch hooders.
