An enhanced identification appliance, such as a wristband, bracelet, patch, headband, neckband, ankleband, legband, card, sticker, or other wearable appliance, may have a biometric, chemical, optical, heat, pressure, humidity, electromagnetic, and/or acoustic sensor, various opto-electronics and/or various security features such as tamper-evident and tamper-resistant features. The sensors may obtain wearer-related information such as a fingerprint, retina, iris, blood, DNA, genetic data, voice pattern, temperature and other characteristic. Security features include a fastener on the identification appliance, which indicates whether the appliance has been attached to a wearer and if so, enables circuit functions. If one tampers with the appliance, circuit functions may be disabled, certain data erased, and/or evidence of tampering made apparent. The appliance may monitor the location or determine the identity of vehicle passengers for an airplane, train, boat, bus, etc. Alternatively, the identification band may contain a person's immigration status.

Enhanced identification appliance

An identification appliance, such as a wristband, bracelet, patch, headband, necklace, card, sticker, or other wearable appliance, has an improved patch or microstrip antenna. The microstrip antenna comprises a conductive patch layer, a conductive ground layer and a dielectric layer in between the conductive layers. The microstrip antenna is mounted to or disposed in the identification appliance, where preferably the ground layer is closest to the user and the patch layer is furthest from the user. Electronic circuits may be located in the dielectric layer, on a surface of a conductive layer, or on another part of the identification appliance. Connecting holes through the dielectric layer may allow circuits to be connected to a conductive layer or layers. This improved antenna resolves detuning and communication degradation problems.

Microstrip antenna for an identification appliance

A circularly polarized multifrequency antenna is described. The antenna includes a reflector having a first side and a second side, a first crossed dipole pair having a first resonant frequency and a second crossed dipole pair having a second resonant frequency. The first and second dipole pair are symmetrically disposed on the first side of the reflector and configured to be fed with equal power in a relative phase rotation of 0&deg;, 90&deg;, 180&deg; and 270&deg;.

A bandstop filter contains one or more resonant circuits connected by interconnecting transmission lines. The resonant circuits each have a transmission line connected between two capacitors. One capacitor is connected to the interconnecting transmission line and the other capacitor is connected to ground. The resonant circuits may have a helical coil of superconducting materials as the transmission line. The capacitors may be in the form of screws, which can be inserted into or removed from the center of the helix. The helix may be formed as a discrete structure and supported by a low-loss material within a housing.

Superconducting radio-frequency bandstop filter

An electromagnetic filter has a unitary filter body defining a number of cavities. A cover for the filter body has several resonators attached to it which are located in the cavities when the cover is attached to the filter body. The cover has a recess into which a transmission line is placed. Passageways through the cover connect the transmission line with coupling mechanisms mounted on the cover adjacent the resonators. The resonators have a generally toroidal shape and the coupling mechanisms are shaped to provide the desired coupling between the transmission line and the resonators. An adjustable capacitor attached to the coupling loop has a passageway through its housing to eliminate moisture from the capacitor. The resonator and cavities may be tuned by use of a tuning mechanism which is also designed to minimize moisture which might prevent movement of the tuner during tuning.
