This invention provides a novel transceiver design to control/compensate for the spatial-wideband effect in wideband massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems for both sensing and communication networks. The proposed design aims to divide the ultra-wideband signal into narrow band beams and control them with a simplified exhaustive search-based precoding to align the beam angle to the target direction.

Spatial-wideband compensation in wideband massive MIMO systems

Some embodiments in the present disclosure relate to facilitating coexistence of communication applications and sensing applications in at least partially overlapping bandwidths. A sensing device, a joint sensing and communication device and/or a communication device are provided that transmit a request for transmission resources to a scheduling device in a communication format compliant with a communication standard. In response, the scheduling device allocates resources corresponding to a frame format compliant with a communication standard according to which the communication device operates, if the request was for a communication application or the scheduling device allocates resources corresponding to a frame format compliant with the communication standard or to a frame format suitable for a sensing application, if the request was for the sensing application. The selection of the frame format for the sensing application may further depend on the priority of the sensing application or further features of the application or environment or channel or the like. The wireless device which receives the allocation schedules the signal transmission accordingly and may provide feedback to the scheduling device for adaptive frame format selection.

Adaptive frame selection for sensing and joint sensing and communication applications

In the area of Joint Random Subcarrier Selection and Channel-Based Artificial Signal Design Aided PLS, a method for providing physical layer security (PLS) depending on the randomness of wireless channel is proposed. Specifically, a channel-based joint random subcarrier selection and artificial signal design are introduced to protect the communication in the presence of a passive eavesdropper which can be even stronger than the legitimate receiver. Our analysis assumes a window-based subcarrier selection method in which the strongest subcarriers in each window are selected. Chosen subcarriers are considered for secret sequence extraction. The generated channel dependent secret sequence is used for both random subcarrier selection and artificial signal design. We evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method through some representative metrics, such as secret sequence disagreement rate (SSDR), throughput and bit error rate (BER), in both perfect and imperfect channel estimation cases. Simulation results are presented and insightful discussions are drawn.

The present disclosure relates to the detection of impairments in a received wireless communication signal. It may detect the presence of each of N types (sources) of impairments and possibly the amount of the impairment present in the received signal. The detection includes processing of the received signal by a trainable model trained to distinguish N sources of impairments by applying learning, with N being an integer larger than one. The trainable model outputs, for each source j of the N sources, a contribution of the j-th source of impairments to the obtained signal. The contribution may be binary, indicating the presence or absence of the j-th source of impairment, or may also indicate the amount of impairment.

Disclosed is a method to protect wireless communication signals from being overheard/intercepted by malicious eavesdroppers. The method has three main steps: selection of the coordinating transmission points (TPs) for the user whose communication is to be secured, splitting of the data that is to be sent to the aforementioned user into N parts, where N is the number of TPs used and channel based manipulation of the transmitted signal to ensure that delay spread is less than guard duration.

An apparatus and method for a multi-service transmitter of an OFDM base station (BS) in a mixed numerology radio access network, wherein the transmitter uses a common cyclic prefix across all service types to eliminate inter-numerology interference (INI) by using a new Frequency Re-sampler (VR) component in the transmitter that converts streams of those services with smaller FFT sizes into a common larger FFT size in the frequency domain, which in effect increases their number of samples. The VR simply causes a multi-service transmitter to mimic a single-service transmitter thereby reducing the required number of ZF precoders to one and causing much fewer number of precoding operations. The transmitter sends resource configuration regarding the use of common CP for all services to each connected UE.

Apparatus and method for an improved transmitter for multi-service radio networks

The present disclosure relates to channel estimation, at a receiving device of a communication system employing a (re)configurable surface. The channel estimation includes beamforming search to obtain trained reflection coefficients of the configurable surface and an angle of arrival, AoA, of the signals at the receiving device. Then, based on the configurable surface and the obtained AoA at the receiving device, reflection coefficients of the configurable surface are derived for an ideal channel portion between the transmitting device and the configurable surface. According to a relation between the trained reflection coefficients and the estimated reflection coefficients, the estimation of the characteristics of a channel between the transmitting device and the configurable surface is performed. The channel estimation may be employed in user mobility tracking.

Disclosed is a channel-dependent multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) technique with adaptive spreading codes. Adaptive spreading codes are used for each subcarrier per user which increase the security level of conventional MC-CDMA. Two different map designs are proposed: fixed and adaptive interval maps. These maps are shared among all nodes and gives information about the spreading code sequences for corresponding channel gains.

The method of the invention is related to utilizing the convergence patterns of sparse coding for detecting a primary user emulation/signal jamming attack in a cognitive radio setting. The method basically comprises a training stage and a testing stage. Through the method, the hypothesis which shows that there is no primary user but only noise (H), the hypothesis which shows that there is a legitimate primary user present with a right to use the spectrum and the secondary user should not use the spectrum (H), and the hypothesis which shows that there is a primary user emulator/signal jammer in the environment (H) can be distinguished.
