A method and system to reduce a probability of incorrect interruption of an uplink transmission of a wireless device are disclosed. According to one aspect, decoding of a sequence of bits obtained from a signal received by the wireless device is performed without knowing whether the sequence corresponds to one of a grant for uplink transmission and noise. Decoding of the sequence of bits is performed to determine a probability metric associated with a first m bits of the sequence, where m is an integer greater than 1. The probability metric is compared to a threshold. The received signal is interpreted as having a grant sequence if the probability metric is greater than the threshold. The received signal is interpreted as noise if the probability metric is not greater than the threshold.

Enhanced grant detection method

A method is provided of a wireless communication device operating in connection with a cellular communication system providing a serving cell and one or more interfering cells. A signal is received comprising symbols of the serving cell transmitted in a downlink channel and symbols of the one or more interfering cells and a first function of a signal-to-interference ratio of the received signal is calculated. One or more of the interfering cells are selected as dominant interfering cells based on a respective average power of reference symbols of the one or more interfering cells in the received signal, an average power of demodulated symbols of the serving cell in the received signal and a respective average power of demodulated symbols of each of the dominant interfering cells in the received signal are determined. A metric value is calculated based on the average power of demodulated symbols of the serving cell and on the respective average power of demodulated symbols of each of the dominant interfering cells, a channel condition indication is determined based on the metric value and the first function of the signal-to-interference ratio of the received signal, and the channel condition indication is transmitted to the cellular communication system, thereby providing downlink channel condition information to a network node. A method of creating a look-up table for mapping the first function and the metric value to the channel condition indication is also disclosed along with computer program products, arrangements and wireless communication devices corresponding to the methods.

Determination of channel condition indication

Methods and apparatus for controlling a receiver based on a received signal include receiving the signal; generating, based on a portion of the signal, a SIR estimate; comparing the SIR estimate and a threshold value; and demodulating a remaining portion of the signal only if the SIR estimate passes the threshold value.

Receiver power reduction methods and apparatus

A method and apparatus provide for setting processing delay assignments in a CDMA receiver using a flat-channel placement or using a dispersive channel placement, in dependence on characterizing the channel as flat or dispersive. For example, a receiver maintains a logical flag reliably indicating the current channel state as flat or dispersive, and assigns or otherwise sets processing delays&#x2014;e.g., for received signal demodulation&#x2014;using a flat-channel placement algorithm or a dispersive-channel placement algorithm. The 'flat-channel' placement algorithm generally provides better performance in flat-channel environments, and the 'dispersive-channel' placement algorithm generally provides better performance in dispersive channel environments. Such processing may be regarded as &#x201c;activating&#x201d; a simplified processing delay placement grid that offers better performance if the channel truly is flat, with the underlying advantage of providing a reliable mechanism for detecting flat channel conditions.
