A cooking apparatus has a cooking chamber, a microwave unit to radiate microwaves to the cooking chamber, a convection unit to supply hot air to the cooking chamber, a grill unit to supply radiant heat to the cooking chamber, an input unit to receive a cooking command and a control unit to perform a cooking corresponding to the received cooking command by performing one of a first heating stage and a second heating stage, and after performing the one of the first heating stage and the second heating stage, performing the other one of the first heating stage and the second heating stage. In the first heating stage, the control unit operates the microwave unit and at least one of the convection unit and the grill unit, and in the second heating stage, the control unit operates the grill unit and the convection unit while not operating the microwave unit.

Cooking apparatus and control method thereof

Disclosed is a cooking apparatus for providing a cooking vessel suitable for a simmer cooking function. A cooking apparatus of the present invention includes a cooking room; a cooking vessel accommodated in the cooking room, and including a main body, and a heating element attached on a bottom of the main body and configured to be heated by microwaves to heat the main body; a microwave heater configured to radiate microwaves to the cooking vessel; an input device configured to receive a simmer cooking command; and a controller configured to repeatedly perform a process of turning on the microwave heater for a first time period, when the simmer cooking command is received through the input device, and turning off the microwave heater for a second time period when the first time period elapses, for a cooking time period, and configured to perform a keeping-warm process when a door does not open in a third time period after the cooking time period elapses.

The cooking apparatus according to one aspect of the present embodiment includes an input part configured to receive a plate warming mode command; a microwave heating part configured to radiate microwave to at least one plate disposed in a cooking chamber provided inside the cooking apparatus; and a control part configured to control at least one of an operation time of the microwave heating part and an intensity of the microwave radiated from the microwave heating part when the plate warming mode command is input.

When the user fry-cooking command is input, the control unit performs a microwave-heating stage of activating at least one of the convection-heating unit and the grill-heating unit and activating the microwave-heating unit, and performs a slim fry stage of activating the grill-heating unit and the convection-heating unit without activating the microwave-heating unit. Accordingly, the cooking apparatus achieves the fry-cooking process using the microwaves, radiant heat and convection heat without dipping the materials to be cooked in oil.

A microwave oven includes a cooking chamber in which either microwave cooking or hot air convection cooking can be performed. A cooling chamber is situated rearwardly of the cooking chamber for housing a motor and cooling fan. A rear cover of the cooling chamber includes air intake and air exhaust holes formed therein for circulating a cooling air flow produced by the fan. The cover includes a vertical central surface in which the air intake holes are formed, as well as additional surfaces extending obliquely forwardly from respective edges of the central surface. The additional surfaces include a top surface, a bottom surface, and right and left side surfaces. Each of those additional surfaces, except for one of the side surfaces, includes air exhaust holes. Each of the air exhaust holes includes a rearward projection extending thereabove to resist the entry of water. Each of the air intake holes includes a projection extending forwardly from an edge thereof and inclined toward a central axis of the air exhaust hole to resist the entry of foreign objects. A rearward protrusion formed on the central surface serves to space the air intake openings from a surface located adjacent to the microwave oven.
