A process that controls sizes, shapes, and densities of the abrasive composite structures on a substrate by controlling the properties of the slurry (more than just the number and size of the particles in the slurry), controlling wet coating thickness of the slurry on the substrate, and controlling drying conditions of the slurry. Similar to how mud dries and cracks when arid and parched, the controlled drying of the slurry produces cracks as the slurry dries. These cracks form structures that are separated by grooves (or valleys), which form the abrasive surface.

Abrasives

A polishing pad or polishing tape with abrasive particles (e.g., diamond, aluminum-oxide, silicon-carbide, etc.) having an average particle size of between approximately 0.5 micrometers (μm) and 5.0 μm, which are strongly adhered with water-insoluble binders to a flexible and lens-conformable substrate having a cushion so that there is little-to-no shedding or release of the particles from the substrate.

Optical surface polishing

A composite material includes a non-polar polymer and alumina hydrate particulate. The composite material has a Heat Distortion Performance of at least about 10% relative to the non-polar polymer absent the alumina hydrate particulate. The composite material may include a coupling agent including a phosphinic acid group, a phosphonic acid group or an ester derivative thereof.

Composite materials having improved thermal performance

A roofing membrane includes first and second layers. The first layer includes a low surface energy polymer. A method of installing the roofing membrane includes, along an edge of a first membrane, mechanically removing a portion of the first membrane extending vertically to include the first layer and a portion of the second layer to leave a flap of the first membrane, placing an edge of a second membrane to overlap the first membrane, and bonding the first membrane to the second membrane. The underside of the edge of the second membrane overlies the flap of the first membrane.

Method of installing a roofing membrane

A coated abrasive product is disclosed, which includes a substrate and an abrasive layer overlying the substrate. The abrasive layer includes abrasive grains and a binder, the binder being formed from a binder formulation having first and second binder components mixed together uniformly with the abrasive grains, wherein the first binder component is radiation curable and the second binder component comprises a powder and is thermally curable.

Processes for forming coated abrasive products

An abrasive product is disclosed. The abrasive product includes a binder support substrate, a binder, an abrasive material affixed to the support substrate by the binder, and an antiloading composition on the surface of the abrasive product. The antiloading composition is a lauryl sulfate. The lauryl sulfate is the only organic antiloading compound included in the antiloading composition.

Antiloading compositions and methods of selecting same

A composite material includes a polyimide matrix material and an exfoliated graphite material dispersed within the polyimide matrix material. The composite material exhibits a Thermal Stability Index of at least about 20 and has a particle distribution in which 90% of the particles have a particle size not greater than 500 micrometers.

A multilayer polymer film includes first and second polymer layers. The first polymer layer includes a first ultraviolet radiation absorber. The second polymer layer overlies the first polymer layer and includes a second ultraviolet radiation absorber. A rapid structuring media cartridge includes a cartridge body, a first binder and first abrasive particles. The cartridge is operable to deposit successive patterned layers including the first binder and first abrasive particles to form an abrasive structure.

Rapid tooling system and methods for manufacturing abrasive articles

A method of facilitating abrasive article manufacturing includes providing a rapid tooling system to a consumer and providing a cartridge to the consumer. The cartridge has a cartridge body, a first binder and first abrasive particles. The cartridge is configured to operate as part of the rapid tooling system and is operable to deposit the first binder and the first abrasive particles in successive patterned layers to form an abrasive structure.

A multilayer film includes a first layer including a blend of a polyolefin and a diene elastomer, a second layer directly contacting and directly bonded to the first layer, and a third layer directly contacting and directly bonded to the first layer. The second and third layers include a fluoropolymer.

Multi-layer release films

A multi-layer film includes a first layer including a blend of diene elastomer and not greater than about 40% by weight polyolefin. The multi-layer film also includes a second layer directly contacting and directly bonded to the first layer. The second layer includes a fluoropolymer.

A roofing material includes a first layer including a fluoropolymer, a second layer directly bonded to and directly contacting the first layer, and a third layer underlying the second layer. The second layer includes an unfunctionalized olefinic polymer. The third layer includes a polymeric material and a filler.

Roofing membrane

A coated abrasive article includes a substrate and a patterned set of abrasive structures. Each abrasive structure of the patterned set of abrasive structures has an engineered microfeature.
