A technique facilitates improved anchoring of expandable well tools along a wellbore or other type of borehole. According to an embodiment, a well tool is sized for placement along a well string. The well tool comprises a tubing and an expandable tubular coupled to the tubing. The expandable tubular is plastically deformable in a radially outward direction when sufficient pressure is applied to an interior of the expandable tubular. The well tool also comprises at least one anchoring ring disposed circumferentially about the expandable tubular. The anchoring ring is constructed with at least one weak point which breaks during expansion of the expandable tubular. Breakage at this weak point enables movement of the anchoring ring in a radially outward direction without elongation of the anchoring ring.

System and methodology for utilizing anchoring element with expandable tubular

A technique facilitates use of a packer () in a borehole () or within other tubular structures. The packer () may be constructed for mounting about a generally tubular base pipe (). The packer () generally comprises a metal sleeve () combined with extremities () located at each axial end of the metal sleeve. The metal sleeve maintains a seal once expanded to a surrounding wellbore wall, e.g. a casing wall. For example, the metal sleeve may be combined with an elastomer along its exterior so the elastomer may seal against the surrounding wellbore wall () when the metal sleeve is radially expanded. Additionally, an anchoring system () is disposed within one or both of the extremities and oriented for engagement with the tubular base pipe so as to act against rotation and sliding of the packer with respect to the tubular base pipe ().

Expandable metal packer with anchoring system

A technique facilitates setting of a liner hanger in a casing or within other tubular structures via a setting tool. The liner hanger may be constructed with an expandable hanger body between fixed ends. The expandable hanger body is formed from a material, e.g. metal, sufficiently ductile to undergo plastic deformation as it is expanded into engagement with a surrounding casing or other tubing. The expandable hanger body is expanded via fluid delivered under high pressure by the setting tool. The setting tool has a pressure booster to achieve the desired high pressure. The pressure booster may be in the form of a multi-diameter piston constructed to establish the desired high pressure during a single stroke.
