An electrowetting display device includes a first base substrate, a partition wall which is on the first base substrate and partitions pixels, a second base substrate which faces the first base substrate, column spacers which are on the second base substrate and contact the partition wall, an electrowetting layer which is between the first and second base substrates and includes a first fluid and a second fluid immiscible with each other, and channels disposed in a boundary area between the pixels. The second fluid has electrical conductivity or electrical polarity. The boundary area is overlapped with the partition wall and the channels define a flow path of the second fluid. The column spacers are in the boundary area between the pixels except for a boundary area including the channels.

Electrowetting display device

A display apparatus includes a backlight assembly which generates a light and a display panel which receives the light to display an image, the display panel including a first substrate, a second substrate which faces the first substrate and is disposed closer to the backlight assembly than the first substrate, a gate line disposed on the first substrate, a data line disposed on the gate line and insulated from the gate line, a thin film transistor disposed on the first substrate and electrically connected to the gate line and the data line, and a reflection preventing layer disposed between the first substrate and the gate line to reduce an amount of a reflected light reflected by the gate line.

A display device and a method of manufacturing a display device are capable of preventing an alignment layer from being lumped in a microcavity. The display device includes: a substrate; a thin film transistor formed on the substrate; a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor; a roof layer formed on the pixel electrode; microcavities interposed between the pixel electrode and the roof layer; an injection hole formed in the roof layer, the injection hole configured to expose at least a portion of the microcavities; a first valley extended in one direction between the microcavities; an alignment layer formed on the pixel electrode, under the roof layer, and in the first valley; a liquid crystal layer filled in the microcavities; and an encapsulation layer formed on the roof layer, the encapsulation layer configured to cover the injection hole and to seal the microcavities.

Display device and method of manufacturing the same

A method to manufacture a display device, includes: forming, on a substrate of the display device, a sacrificial layer including a material, the material including at least one of amorphous carbon, a metal, and an inorganic material; forming a layer covering the sacrificial layer; forming an injection hole exposing the sacrificial layer; removing, via the injection hole, the sacrificial layer to form a microcavity; and disposing liquid crystal in the microcavity.

Methods of manufacturing thin-film transistor array substrate and liquid crystal display

An electrowetting display device including a first base substrate, a second base substrate facing the first base substrate, a first electrode disposed on the first base substrate, a second electrode disposed on the second base substrate to face the first electrode, a partition wall disposed between the first and second electrodes to define a receiving area, a hydrophobic layer disposed on the first electrode, a hydrophilic layer disposed on the second electrode, and first and second fluids accommodated in the receiving area and immiscible with each other. At least one of the first fluid and the second fluid has a polarity. The hydrophilic layer allows droplets separated from a hydrophobic fluid of the first and second fluids to be merged with the hydrophobic fluid. Accordingly, a change in amount of the fluids in each pixel is prevented.
