A system and method for inductively providing electrical power at a plurality of power levels to electrical devices. The system may include an inductive power outlet unit conductively coupled to a power supply and an inductive power receiver unit associated with the electrical device. The inductive power outlet unit includes a driver device operable to generate power at a plurality of power levels and electrical power is transferred to the electrical device at a power level selected from the plurality of power levels, in accordance with electrical power requirements of the electrical device. The power receiver may be operable in a plurality of modes having a secondary inductor configured to operate selectively with a plurality of inductance values.

System and method for providing inductive power at multiple power levels

A power transmitter may send a digital ping to a receiver. The power transmitter may transfer power to the receiver. The power transmitter may receive a report from the receiver which may comprise a received power value. The power transmitter may determine a transmitted power parameter value, which may be based on a threshold value subtracted from a transmitter power and based on transmitter losses subtracted from the transmitter power. The power transmitter may determine that the received power value is less than the determined transmitted power parameter value and may send an analog ping to the receiver in response to a determination that the received power value is less than the determined transmitted power parameter value. The power transmitter may measure a decay pattern of the analog ping. The power transmitter may determine that the receiver comprises a friendly foreign object. The power transmitter may update the threshold value.

Detection of foreign object and friendly metal

A method of detecting a foreign object presence between a wireless power transmitter and a wireless power receiver, the wireless power transmitter comprising a primary coil for transferring power wirelessly to a secondary coil of the wireless power receiver, comprises: transmitting a calibration ping signal; measuring and recording decay time of the calibration ping signal; transmitting test ping signal; measuring and recording decay time of the test ping signal; and determining the foreign object presence if the decay time of the test ping signal is smaller than decay time of the calibration ping signal and if an absolute value of a difference between them is above a threshold. In addition, or alternatively, a self-frequency of a decaying calibration ping signal is measured and recorded; a self-frequency of a decaying test ping signal is measured and recorded; and the foreign object presence is determined if a difference between the self-frequency of the decaying test ping signal and the self-frequency of the decaying calibration ping signal falls outside a predetermined value.

Wireless power transmitter and method of error detection during use thereof

A triggerable power transmitter for power transmission from a primary coil to an inductively coupled secondary coil in a power receiver has a primary coil; a driver for electrically driving the primary coil; a probing coil receives analog signals indicative of resonance properties of the primary coil; analog filters may be used to filter frequencies, and a processor capable of generating digital information in response to the analog signal and determining if said primary coil is coupled to a secondary coil based on the digital information, and triggering power from the primary coil to said secondary coil when said primary coil is inductively coupled to said secondary coil. A resistor may be selectably connected in series with the primary coil and shorted out when power is transmitted.

System and method for triggering power transfer across an inductive power coupling and non resonant transmission

A wireless power transmitter is provided for power transmission to a wireless power receiver. The transmitter comprises a primary coil to transfer power to a secondary coil of the wireless power receiver, a power supply, a driver to provide an electric potential from the power supply to the primary coil, a monitoring system to measure electrical flow parameters of the primary coil, and to filter the measured electrical flow parameters thereby producing a response signal, and a controller to direct operation of the wireless power transmitter. The controller is configured to perform error checking by directing the driver to provide the electric potential as a superposition of a transmission signal and a sensing signal, the filter characteristics comprising electrical flow parameters of the and sensing signal, and detecting, based a difference between the response and sensing signals, an error condition indicative of a foreign object.

The disclosure relates to systems and methods for managing a wireless powering system for power transfer to electrical devices, providing central management console through a communication network. The wireless powering system comprising at least one wireless power outlet with an integrated communication module and at least one management server and is further operable is further operable to provide location based services when coupled with a software application. The management system, of the current disclosure, is enabling remote health check and maintenance of all of wireless power outlets within the network. Further, the management system allows for complete monitoring of a deployment according to system administrator rights and policy management coupled with command and control functioning to determine allowed/disallowed functionality while transferring powering to an electrical device in a specific venue.

An inductive power transmitter for inductive power transmission to an inductive power receiver is provided, comprising a primary coil, capable of being inductively coupled to a secondary coil in the inductive power receiver, a power supply and an associate driver configured to provide a varying electrical potential from the power supply to the primary coil, a monitoring system configured to measure electrical flow parameters of the primary coil, and a controller configured to detect, based on the electrical flow parameters measured by the monitoring system, an error condition indicative of a foreign object introduced between the primary coil and the secondary coil, and to facilitate, when the error condition is detected, interrupting the electrical potential to the primary coil.

Efficiency monitor for inductive power transmission

An inductive power transfer system is provided that includes at least one inductive power receiver having at least one secondary inductor for forming an inductive couple with a primary inductor and providing power to an electric load and at least one inductive power outlet having at least one primary inductor wired to a power supply via a driver configured to provide a driving voltage across the primary inductor. The driving voltage is oscillating at a transmission frequency significantly different from the natural frequency of the inductive couple. The system further includes at least one power monitor and at least one frequency modulator operable to adjust the natural frequency of the inductive couple thereby regulating power provided to the electric load.

System and method for regulating inductive power transmission

An inductive power transfer system operable in a plurality of modes comprising an inductive power transmitter capable of providing power to the inductive power receiver over an extended region. The system may be switchable between the various modes by means of a mode selector operable to activate various features as required, such as: an alignment mechanism a resonance tuner, an auxiliary coil arrangement or a resonance seeking arrangement.
