A dual head-up display (HUD) system includes a plurality of on-board sensors, a wireless communication module, a driver monitoring system, and a system controller in electronic communication with the plurality of on-board sensors, the driver monitoring system and the wireless communication module, and adapted to identify parking spaces within proximity to the vehicle, display, with an augmented reality HUD, first information related to identified parking spaces, display, with a reflective HUD, second information related to the identified parking spaces, determine, if the vehicle is performing a parking maneuver, and when the vehicle is performing a parking maneuver into a selected parking space, to display, with the augmented reality HUD, first and second parking assist graphics adapted to provide guidance to a driver of the vehicle while parking the vehicle in the selected parking space.

Parking assist in dual head-up display system

A head-up display system for displaying graphics upon a windscreen of a vehicle to provide a driver with a gamified experience includes a driver monitoring system including one or more cameras that determine a location of a head of the driver of the vehicle and an eye location of the driver, a graphic projection module for generating images upon the windscreen of the vehicle, and one or more controllers in electronic communication with the driver monitoring system and the graphic projection module. The controller executes instructions to instruct the graphic projection module to generate a vertical alignment graphic upon the windscreen of the vehicle. The vertical alignment graphic indicates when the eye location of the driver is positioned at a nominal height of an eyebox of the head-up display.

Head-up display providing a gamified experience to a driver during calibration mode

A method includes placing a physical target on a windshield of a vehicle, mounting a fixture inside the vehicle to position a camera array on the fixture within a line of sight of a passenger, capturing images of the physical target using the camera array, and determining a difference between actual and target locations of the physical target in each image. In addition, the method includes controlling the HUD to display a virtual target on the windshield, capturing images of the virtual target using the camera array, and determining a target location of the virtual target in each image based on the difference. Further, the method includes determining an offset between an actual location of the virtual target in each image and the target location of the virtual target in each image, and adjusting the location of an image projected onto the windshield by the HUD based on the offset.
