A media holder assembly () includes a base () secured to a platform (). The platform () has a central cylindrical depression (). A first hub () protrudes from the center of the depression (). A first spring (), concentric to the first hub () biases a second, ring-shaped hub () which is fitted over the first spring (). The second hub () is slidably engaged to the first hub (). A second spring (), concentric to the first hub () and sized to fit around the second hub (), biases a third, ring-shaped hub () which is fitted over the second spring (). The third hub () is slidably engaged to the second hub () and to the inner wall () of the cylindrical depression (). The first hub (), the second hub (), and the third hub () are sized to accommodate media rolls of different sizes.

Sealing assemblies for preventing water intrusion into the interior of a casing are provided. In one exemplary implementation, a water-resistant casing comprises a sealing element over-molded on a wall, wherein the sealing element includes a first feature and a second feature. The water-resistant casing includes a top section constrained in a lower position by the first feature of the sealing element. The water-resistant casing further includes a bottom section constrained in an upper position by the second feature of the sealing element.

A portable printer having improved ergonomic and operational characteristics. The printer includes an asymmetrically-damped media centering mechanism having first and second media support members moveable along a common longitudinal axis and configured to grasp roll media. The media support members are coupled to a reciprocal movement mechanism configured to translate a longitudinal movement of the first media support member into a corresponding opposite longitudinal movement of the second media support member. A pivoting arm is coupled to the reciprocal movement mechanism. The pivoting arm pivots to a first position when the first and second media support members are moved closer to each other, which causes a damping gear to engage the reciprocal movement mechanism, thereby damping the grasping motion of the media support members and providing an improved user experience. The printer facilitates one-handed operation, including one-handed loading and unloading of media, enabling its use in a variety of environments.

A latching mechanism includes a housing defining a slot for receiving a device therein. The housing includes first and second slide blocks disposed on either side of the slot. Each slide block is movable between a retracted position, wherein a pin thereof is disposed within the housing, and an extended position, wherein the pin extends into the slot to engage the device therein. A U-shaped member is disposed within the housing and includes first and second legs interconnected by a base. The U-shaped member is movable relative to the housing between an unlocked position, wherein the legs retain the slide blocks in the retracted position, a locked position, wherein the slide blocks are permitted to move to the extended position, and an eject position, wherein the legs retain the slide blocks in the retracted position and wherein the base extends into the slot to eject the handheld device.

A portable printer includes a housing having a cavity defined therein which supports a roll of stock material for printing indicia thereon. The housing has a drive motor assembly configured to move the stock material through a paper path defined in the housing. A battery is loadable within a battery compartment disposed in the cavity and a cover assembly is pivotably supported on the housing and moveable from an open configuration for loading the roll of stock material to a closed configuration to enable printing. A selectively adjustable media support assembly supports the roll of stock material and includes a paper tray having a cam-shaped stanchion which is slideable within a media support tray from a first position for supporting a roll of stock material of a first size to a second position for supporting a roll of stock material of a second size. The cam-shaped stanchion is also rotatable from a first orientation which allows selective, sliding adjustment of the paper tray and cam-shaped stanchion to a second orientation which locks the cam-shaped stanchion against the media support tray.

A portable printer includes a housing having a cavity defined therein which supports a stock material for printing indicia thereon. The housing includes a power terminal which connects to a drive motor assembly configured to move the stock material through a paper path defined in the housing. A battery is loadable within the cavity and is movable from a first position spaced from the terminal to a second position in positive engagement with the terminal. A cover assembly is included which is pivotably supported on the housing and which is moveable from an open configuration for loading the stock material to a closed configuration to enable printing. The cover assembly includes a flexible print head mounted therein and a battery compartment having a ledge configured to operably engage the battery when the cover assembly is moved to the closed configuration to force the battery to the second position in positive engagement with the terminal.
