Power management techniques in distributed communication systems in which the power available at a remote unit (RU) is measured and compared to the power requirements of the RU. Voltage and current are measured for two dummy loads at the RU and these values are used to solve for the output voltage of the power supply and the resistance of the wires. From these values, a maximum power available may be calculated and compared to power requirements of the RU.

Power management for distributed communication systems, and related components, systems, and methods

A digital routing unit (DRU) within a wireless distribution system (WDS) couples to multiple signal sources (e.g., base band units (BBU)) through common public radio interface (CPRI) links in such a fashion that clock reconditioning circuitry within the DRU is consolidated. That is, instead of each receiver circuit at each input at the DRU having its own clock reconditioning circuit, signals from the same network operator may be multiplexed so as to select a single signal and, from that single signal, recover a cleaned clock signal for use by all the receivers that receive signals from that network operator.

Systems and methods for reducing redundant jitter cleaners in wireless distribution systems

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) communication path switching in a time-division duplex (TDD) distributed antenna system (DAS). In this regard, a communications control circuit is provided. The communications control circuit is configured to synchronize to DL periods and UL periods of TDD communication signal to switch a TDD communication signal between a DL communication path and a UL communication path in a DAS accordingly. The communication control circuit is configured to detect the DL periods and/or the UL periods in the TDD communication signal by sensing a power increase associated with the TDD communication signal in the DL communication path. In this manner, the TDD communication signals can be synchronously directed to the DL communication path and UL communication path without destructing and/or decoding the TDD communication signals.

Downlink and uplink communication path switching in a time-division duplex (TDD) distributed antenna system (DAS)

A phase locked loop (PLL) provides output signals at multiple frequencies. In particular, the PLL includes a phase detector and two voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs). One of the VCOs is selectively enabled depending on a desired output signal. The phase detector receives a reference signal and a feedback signal from the enabled one of the two VCOs. The phase detector outputs a control signal that controls the VCO that provided the feedback signal.

Systems and methods for using a phase locked loop (PLL) to provide multiple output signals

Dynamic determination of threshold power level for use in distinguishing between downlink and uplink periods in time-division duplexed (TDD) communications. For example, downlink and uplink periods may be distinguished in TDD communications in a distributed communications system (DCS), such as a distributed antenna system (DAS). Detecting a power level in a TDD communications signal less than the threshold power level is used to identify uplink periods in the TDD communications signal. In this manner, TDD communications circuits involved with transmitting TDD communications signals can synchronize their transmission circuitry to only transmit downlink TDD communications signals in downlink periods and receive uplink TDD communications signals in uplink periods. The threshold power level used to distinguish between downlink and uplink periods in a TDD communications signal can also be dynamically determined to avoid mistakenly identifying an uplink period during a true downlink period in the TDD communications signals.
