A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for monitoring and alerting on an event log. One or more alert policies is accessed, wherein each of the alert policies is comprised of one or more rules stored on a computer. An event log stored on a computer is accessed in a location-independent manner to gather one or more event messages stored therein. The event messages are filtered by comparing them to the rules of the alert policies to raise an alert and determine whether an alert action should be invoked.

Location-independent service for monitoring and alerting on an event log

A method, apparatus, article of manufacture, and a memory structure for monitoring and raising alerts in data processing jobs. The alert and monitoring system uses a monitor request table stored in a relational database as a central repository in which data process jobs insert monitoring requests. The monitoring requests specify the time at which alerts or monitoring notices should be taken, and if the data processing job fails to submit an updated monitor request, the action described in the monitor request is taken. Provision is made for customized actions to be taken via a action alert table, which stores additional data allowing conditional and logical invocation of actions.

Monitoring and raising alerts for database jobs

A performance monitoring system uses a client/server architecture across a network including a plurality of interconnected computers. A data collector process collects and stores data from a monitored process, wherein the data collector process allows a user to control a frequency of collection for each of one or more different types of the collected data and gathers the different types of the collected data in parallel from the monitored process. A server process distributes the data collected by the data collector process to one or more client processes. Each client process manages a connection with the server process on behalf of one or more performance monitoring applications and relays data requests to the server process and delivers results therefrom to the performance monitoring applications.
