Apparatus and method for constructing at a given site a building having a predetermined shape with a periphery that is essentially defined by a width and a length, and the building having generally vertical walls. At a second site creating an upright structure having an interior bounded by spaced-apart and generally vertical walls but no floor, the separation of said walls serving to define an empty shell whose size and shape corresponds to that of the building that is to be constructed. Connecting horizontal beams to the interior of the upright structure so that they and the upright structure can be lifted. Positioning inside the upright structure a trailer that has the necessary load capacity to transport the upright structure over a public road. Temporarily connecting the trailer to the horizontal beams and transporting the upright structure to the first site. Disconnecting the trailer from the upright structure and removing the trailer from the interior of the upright structure. Subsequently lowering the upright structure toward the top of the foundation. Adjusting, as necessary, the relative position of the upright structure with respect to the foundation by moving the upright structure horizontally immediately prior to achieving load-bearing contact with the foundation&mdash;using wheels that are attached to the beams and that can rotate 360 degrees about a vertical axis.

Metal-framed, factory-assembled, and road-transportable building having no floor, and the method of transporting the same

A waterproof cover having special utility for a flat or low-slope roof for a building. The roof includes a structural part comprising beams, joists, rafters, etc., as well as a substrate in the form of plywood panels, metal decking, etc. A waterproof cover is secured over the substrate. The cover is formed by placing a plurality of waterproof sheets loosely over the structural substrate, and connecting the abutting edges of adjacent sheets to one another, much like an old-fashion quilt is assembled. The preferred sheets constitute lightweight, thin but relatively stiff sheets of resin-impregnated fiberglass having a thickness of about 0.065 inch; and the joints between adjacent sheets are formed in situ by a mixture of fiberglass fibers and cured resin. The plurality of sheets are joined to one another (along their abutting edges) to form one giant waterproof cover. To accommodate dimensional changes that will inevitably arise during the life of the cover, there is deliberately built into the cover an excess of material that can compensate for anticipated contractions and expansions due to thermal changes, foundation shifting, etc. This excess of material is created by placing a plurality of removable supports under the sheets before they are mechanically anchored to the substrate. The preferred supports are ropes which can be strung out both longitudinally and transversely on top of a substrate before the sheets are initially put into position; after the sheets have been securely anchored to the substrate, the ropes are then pulled out.

Waterproof coverings for generally flat or low-pitch roofs on buildings

Tilt-wall concrete panels adapted for constructing small buildings with 'finished' interiors, especially single-family residences, etc. A peripheral frame of wooden members is laid on top of a barrier film of plastic (e.g., 4 mil polyethylene) on a horizontal surface. Wood-like studs are then placed within the frame and nailed thereto. Any desired utility cables and service pipes are positioned within the frame. An insulating foam cover, preferably high-density polyurethane, is then generated within and over the frame, to a depth that at least covers the wood-like studs and any utility or service lines. Foam about 1.5 inches thick will cover these elements and bond them securely together as a stable, easily movable 'plate'--after the foam plastic has hardened. A plurality of such plates, each sized to form a part of a building's wall, are positioned at a construction site where a foundation has been prepared; a concrete form is then temporarily completed around each plate, and concrete is poured on top thereof, to an average depth of about 4 to 6 inches. After the concrete hardens, the temporary form is removed and the composite panel is tilted to a vertical position. A plurality of such panels are positioned edge-to-edge and joined to form a continuous outer wall for the building. The plastic barrier film is removed from the face of each panel, and interior wallboards or the like may be nailed to the exposed wood-like studs.

Tilt-wall concrete panel and method of fabricating buildings therewith

A fishing rod holder assembly (10) is provided for attachment to the side of a boat (14) or the like. The assembly (10) comprises a base (18) of a size and shape to be mounted in a recess position in the side of a boat and a rod engaging body (16) releasably attached to the base by a clamping assembly (19). The body has a socket portion (46) for engaging the pistol grip of the rod. The body (16) varies in thickness in the area engaging the assembly (19).
