A joint assembly for an aircraft comprising: a joint comprising a first portion rotatably coupled to a second portion so that the first portion can rotate relative to the second portion; an actuator for rotating the first portion of the joint and comprising a connecting portion that connects to the first portion of the joint; and a latch moveable to a latched arrangement in which the latch prevents rotation of the first portion of the joint in at least one rotational direction, the latch being biased toward the latched arrangement and operatively connected to the connecting portion such that if the connecting portion becomes separated from the rest of the actuator, the latch moves to the latched arrangement, thereby preventing rotation of the first portion of the joint in the at least one rotational direction.

Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to systems and methods for flight control of aircrafts driven by electric propulsion systems and in other types of vehicles. In some embodiments, a computer-implemented method for controlling an aircraft is disclosed, comprising: receiving, from a source processor, a first copy of a signal corresponding to an input device; sending a second copy of the signal to all other processors; receiving a number of second copies of the signal from all other processors, the number of second copies being equal to the number of all other processors excluding the source processor; determining a consensus signal based on the first copy and the second copies of the signal; and determining a command signal for an effector of the aircraft based on the consensus signal, and wherein no two processors are configured to receive signals from a same input device.

Fault-tolerant multi-processor systems and methods for an aircraft

An aircraft system for damping movement of a structural flight element. The aircraft system including a moveable aircraft structure, a power source, a controller, a resistor, and a first transistor connected in series to the resistor. When the power source of the aircraft is providing power, the controller controls the first transistor to prevent current flow through its terminals and through the resistor. Further, when the power source of the aircraft is not providing power, the first transistor allows current generated by a back EMF (electromotive force) voltage to flow through its terminals and through the resistor, the back EMF voltage being created by movement of the moveable aircraft structure.

Embodiments are directed to systems and methods for controlling a tiltrotor aircraft using a flight control system. A flight control computer is configured to control aircraft effectors in response to inputs from inceptors. The flight control computer stores instructions for controlling aircraft effectors. The instructions cause the flight control computer to perform the steps of converting a signal representing longitudinal motion of a first inceptor into a fore-and-aft translational rate command for the tiltrotor aircraft; converting a signal representing lateral motion of the first inceptor into a side-to-side translational rate command for the tiltrotor aircraft; converting a signal representing longitudinal motion of a second inceptor into a height rate command for the tiltrotor aircraft; and converting a signal representing lateral motion of the second inceptor to a yaw rate command for the tiltrotor aircraft.

The propulsion motor control actuates the plurality of electric motors based on a desired torque level to drive the rotor to provide propulsion of the aircraft.

The energy absorption unit is configured to selectively apply a resistance to the outward rotation of the landing legs via the cables based on the magnitude of the landing load, thereby absorbing the landing load when the aircraft lands.

A self-locking actuator for moving a flight control surface of an aircraft and for self-locking in response to an external load applied to the actuator. The actuator includes a motor, a screw, and a drive gear that is rotatably driven by the motor to rotationally couple with the screw. A pawl support is coupled to and rotatable with the screw, and a swivel assembly is coupled to the pawl support for rotational movement with the screw and pivoting movement relative to the screw. The swivel assembly engages a cage that is fixed relative to the rotating screw, drive gear, and swivel assembly. Pivoting of the swivel assembly about a pivot axis engages the swivel assembly with the cage to positively lock with the cage and to prevent rotation of the screw in each of first and second opposite rotational directions of the screw about a rotational axis of the screw.
