The invention provides a novel compound of materials, which solves the problem of metal diffusion into glass layers during the formation of electrodes on a glass substrate. The invention provides a compound which comprises a powder of a conducting metal or alloy and a powder of a meltable metal or alloy. The use of a metal compound furthermore makes it possible to eliminate a firing step in the electrode formation process. Depending on various embodiments, the compound may furthermore include an adhesion promoter, in order to bond the electrodes to the substrate, a resin and/or a photosensitive substance. The invention also relates to a process for manufacturing a plasma panel using the said compound, and to a plasma panel obtained by the said process.

Compound for producing electrodes and process for forming electrodes

The process for manufacturing a plasma display panel, wherein two glass substrates are sealed together using a sealing material of epoxy or polyvinyl butyrate. The sealed structure provides a space between the substrates to contain a discharge gas. The choice of an epoxy or polyvinyl butyrate sealing material allows for relatively low processing temperatures in order to cure the sealing material. This relatively low processing temperature, of between 200&deg; C. and 300&deg; C., lowers the risk of cracking or microcracking of intermediate layers, which are formed on the surfaces of the substrates.

The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a plasma panel comprising two tiles facing each other and containing a plasma discharge gas, at least one of the tiles having an array of electrodes serving to define a number of discharge cells and an array of supporting barriers delimiting the cells, the barriers being made of a material giving them a high and open porosity. According to the process, the barriers are formed in a single step using a paste comprising the said material and an organic resin.

Process for the manufacture of a plasma panel

The invention applies to plasma display panels consisting of two facing plates enclosing a discharge space and comprising an array of discharge cells (X , X , . . . , X , etc.). A display panel according to the invention has at least one porous layer which contains less than 10% of a hardening agent. The porous layer is either a barrier layer or a gettering layer.

The invention concerns a method for producing on a plasma panel faceplate, a dielectric coating comprising embossed patterns. The invention is characterized in that a vitreous coat is produced on the plasma panel faceplate; a mould bearing embossed patterns is applied on the vitreous coat, then the faceplate and the mould are heated until a creep effect of the vitreous coat is obtained which causes the latter to match the form of the mould, thereby enabling to produce simultaneously and with improved quality with respect to prior art, a dielectric coating bearing embossed patterns such as for instance barriers. The invention is particularly applicable to alternating plasma panel.

The present invention relates to a plasma panel comprising a first tile called the rear tile and a second tile called the front tile, the two tiles being joined together with a distance of separation defining a space filled with gas, a first array of electrodes which is formed from a set of two parallel electrodes, called the sustaining electrodes, and which is placed on one of the tiles, a second array of electrodes called the addressing electrodes which is placed on the other tile, and an array of barriers which is placed on one of the tiles parallel to the array of addressing electrodes. According to the invention, the array of barriers is positioned on the tile carrying the first array of electrodes, the barriers having a height of less than the distance of separation between the two tiles and the separation between the two tiles is obtained by specific spacing means.

Coplanar-type plasma panel with improved matrix structure arrangement

A plasma panel includes a front faceplate and a rear faceplate between which are constituted cells. The two faceplates are assembled together by bracing means which determine the distance between the two faceplates. The plasma panel further includes barriers arranged between the two faceplates, and serving in particular to prevent the discharges of one cell from extending to the other neighboring cells. The invention is characterized in that the height of the barriers is less than the distance between the faceplates. This arrangement provides a conditioning effect to the cells to thereby enabling them to be activated more speedily. The invention is in particular applicable to plasma panels using luminophores of different colours.

The present invention relates to a method for carrying out a magnesium oxide based deposition on the dielectric surface of a glass plate of a display panel. The method includes the creation of a mist from a metalorganic compound of magnesium dissolved in a solvent, the conveying of the mist to the dielectric surface of the plate, the evaporation the solvent when approaching the dielectric surface of the plate which is taken to a temperature of about 380&deg; to 430&deg;, and the pyrolysis of the metalorganic compound leading to the magnesium oxide based deposit on the surface of the plate and the evaporation of the organic radical of the compound, this deposit being practically waterproof. The method is especially useful in the manufacture of plasma panels.
