A method of wireless communication at a UE is disclosed herein. The UE obtains, via an antenna of the UE, a first indication of a first measurement of at least one RF signal at a first time instance. The UE obtains, via the antenna, a second indication of a second measurement of the at least one RF signal at a second time instance. The UE calculates a distance traveled by the UE between the first time instance and the second time instance. The UE calculates a DOA of the at least one RF signal based on the first measurement, the second measurement, and the distance traveled by the UE between the first time instance and the second time instance. The UE outputs a third indication of the calculated DoA of the at least one RF signal.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of a positioning reference signal configuration of a base station. A position of a user equipment (UE) may be determined using downlink based solutions (e.g. OTDOA), uplink based solutions (e.g. UTDOA), or combined downlink and uplink based solutions (e.g. RTT). The serving gNBs may request neighboring gNBs to produce downlink reference signal transmissions to a target UE and/or measure uplink reference signal transmissions from the target UE. The serving gNB may receive the uplink reference signal measurements from neighboring gNBs and obtain an own uplink reference signal measurement and forward to the UE or another network entity all the uplink reference signal measurements. The UE may use the uplink reference signal measurements, along with the UE's own downlink reference signal measurements to determine RTTs. Disclosed are techniques for wireless positioning. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) performs a plurality of positioning measurements of a corresponding plurality of positioning reference signal (PRS) resources within a measurement window, wherein the measurement window spans at least one system frame number (SFN) rollover, and transmits, to a location server, at least one measurement report associated with the measurement window, the at least one measurement report including a plurality of timestamp information elements corresponding to the plurality of positioning measurements, wherein at least one timestamp information element of the plurality of timestamp information elements indicates the at least one SFN rollover.

Positioning of a UE is supported in a Radio Resource Control (RRC) Inactive state. The UE receives a request for periodic or triggered location and enters the RRC Inactive state. When an event is detected, the UE sends an RRC Resume Request to a gNB that includes an indication of the event. The indication may be an event report that may include downlink positioning measurements. The gNB forwards the event report to a location server, and may later receive and return an event report acknowledgement to the UE in an RRC Release. The indication may instead trigger uplink positioning, with the base station sending an uplink Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) configuration to the UE in an RRC Release, causing the UE to transmit uplink SRS signals to be measured by gNBs. For uplink related position methods like RTT, the gNB can receive both types of indication.

Method and apparatus for location of a user equipment in an inactive state

Disclosed are techniques related to wireless communication system in which a network node (e.g., a base station, gNB, etc.) may be allowed to puncture a reference signal (RS) to deliver high priority data (e.g., URLLC data) to a user equipment (UE) that is not currently being served by the network node. The RS may comprise a puncturable subset and an unpuncturable subset. The puncturable subset may comprise resources of the RS that are allowed to be punctured, and the unpuncturable subset may comprise resources of the RS that are prohibited from being punctured. The network node may transmit the RS such that unpuncturable subset indicates whether or not the puncturable subset of the RS has or has not been punctured.

Disclosed are techniques for determining round-trip times (RTTs) between a user equipment (UE) and multiple base stations. In an aspect, the UE transmits an RTT measurement signal whose arrival time is measured by each of the base stations, and each of the base stations returns an RTT response signal whose arrival times are measured by the UE. In another aspect, the base stations each transmit an RTT measurement signal and the UE returns an RTT response signal. The receiver of the RTT measurement signal may include the measured arrival time in a payload of the RTT Response signal. Alternatively, the measured arrival time(s) of the RTT Measurement signal(s) and the transmission time(s) of the RTT Response signal(s) are sent in a separate message. The RTT signals can be wideband signals using low reuse resources.

Systems and methods for multiple round trip time (RTT) estimation in wireless networks

In an aspect, a communications device obtains a residual AoA bias associated with a first AoA measurement of a RS-P transmitted from a wireless reference node to a first base station, the wireless reference node associated with a location known to the communications device, obtains a second AoA measurement associated with an uplink signal (e.g., PRACH, SRS, UL-SRS-P, etc.) transmitted from a UE to the first base station, and calibrates the second AoA measurement based on the residual AoA bias. In another aspect, a communications device obtains a residual AoD bias associated with a first AoD measurement of a RS-P transmitted from a first base station to a wireless reference node with a known location, obtains a second AoD measurement associated with a downlink signal (e.g., DL-PRS) transmitted from the first base station to a UE, and calibrates the second AoD measurement based on the residual AoD bias.

Aspects presented herein may enhance the accuracy and/or latency of UE positioning based on crowd-sourcing, where a network entity may compute a position estimate of a UE based on neighbor-cell scan data from the UE and one or more reference UEs. In one aspect, a network entity receives a first set of measurements associated with at least one cell from a UE. Methods, systems, and devices for transmit power control for positioning using non-serving cells are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine that an uplink reference signal may be associated with a positioning procedure. In some cases, the positioning procedure may include transmission, by the UE, of the reference signal to a non-serving cell, which may be farther away from the UE than a serving cell. The UE may determine an absence of a parameter associated with a transmit power for transmitting the reference signal. Based on the absence, the UE may determine the transmit power based on parameters received from a serving cell, based on configuration information, based on a message intercepted from the cell other than the serving cell, or based on other considerations or information.
