In an exemplary method, a call origination request containing a toll-free telephone number of the called party is received from a wireless handset supported by a mobility service provider at a switching node of the telecommunication network. A determination is made if the called party has agreed to pay for at least a portion of the telecommunication service charge by the mobility service provider for providing wireless access to the wireless handset for the call. If the called party has agreed to pay for at least a portion of the telecommunication service charge by the mobility service provider, a call detail record associated with said call is generated that contains information indicating that the called party will be responsible for at least the portion of the telecommunication service charge by the mobility service provider. The call is then terminated to the called party.

Processing calls from wireless handsets to toll-free telephone numbers

A call processing method for distributed switching which substantially increases the percentage of calls that are intra-module calls by distributing the members of trunk groups among a plurality of switching modules and biasing the processing of a call originating on one switching module such that an available trunk group member on that same switching module is assigned to the call if possible. The path hunt function for intra-module calls is separated from the corresponding function for inter-module calls and only the latter function is performed by the system central control. The separation is achieved by dividing the set of switch path resources, e.g., channels or time slots, associated with a switching module into two disjoint subsets--a first subset for intra-module call connections and a second subset for inter-module call connections.

Call processing method for distributed switching

An illustrative method and structural arrangement for reconfiguration of switching system functional units where although the distributed control entities and the distributed switch units of a switching system are in fixed association, the association between peripheral circuits and the control and switch units is not fixed. Rather a group of peripheral circuits is connectable to at least first and second ones of the distributed switch units. When the group of peripheral circuits is connected to the first distributed switch unit, the control unit associated with the first distributed switch unit processes calls to and from the group of peripheral circuits. When the group of peripheral circuits is connected to the second distributed switch unit in response to a reconfiguration signal, the control unit associated with the second distributed switch unit processes calls to and from the group. In particular embodiments, the selective connection of the group of peripheral circuits to different distributed switch units is effected by an interconnection arrangement used to interconnect the switching system and a multiplex of communication circuits from a transmission facility. In one embodiment the interconnection arrangement is implemented using a digital access and crossconnect system (DACS), and in a second embodiment, using a plurality of add/drop multiplexers interconnected in a fiber ring.

Method and apparatus for reconfiguring interconnections between

A system for non-invasively determining the amount of blood flow by performing an autoregressive analysis of Doppler shifted acoustical signals resulting from reflected ultrasonic signals from blood cell movement within internal blood vessels. Each cardiac cycle is determined by an analysis of the patient's electrocardiogram signals,and the resulting cardiac cycles are divided into a predefined number of time segments or channels each containing Doppler shifted signals. The autoregressive analysis is then performed over each individual channel to determine reflection coefficients that model the blood flow and a residual energy level that indicates the energy not accounted for by that modeling. The reflection coefficients results result from a linear predictive code analysis, and the term 'reflection coefficients' is not used in the customary manner as defined for ultrasonic flow analysis of blood as defining a level of reflected acoustic energy. A power spectrum analysis is then performed utilizing the reflection coefficients and residual energy level for each channel. Then, the power spectra of individual channels of all of the cycles are averaged together producing a group of averaged channels representing the average blood flow through the patient's internal vessel over all of the cardiac cycles. These averaged power spectra for each combined channel are then normalized and displayed on a channel-by-channel basis utilizing different colors to represent the different power levels. The utilization of different colors greatly enhances the ability of medical personnel to make diagnostic decisions regarding the amount of blood flow.

Non-invasive blood flow measurements utilizing cardiac cycle

A system for non-invasively determining the amount of blood flow within an internal patient blood vessel by performing an autoregressive analysis of Doppler shifted acoustical signals resulting from the reflection of ultrasonic signals due to blood cell movement by averaging the reflection coefficients and residual energy levels resulting from the autoregressive analysis over a number of cardiac cycles. The reflection coefficients result from a linear predictive code analysis, and the term 'reflection coefficients' is not used in the customary manner as defined for ultrasonic flow analysis of blood as defining a level of reflected acoustic energy. Each cardiac cycle is determined by an analysis of the patient's electrocardiogram signals, and the resulting cardiac cycles are divided into a predefined number of time segments or channels. An autoregressive analysis is then performed on each individual channel to determine the reflection coefficients and the residual energy level for each channel. The reflection coefficients and residual energy level for each particular channel are then averaged over all the cardiac cycles to obtain an averaged reflection coefficient and averaged residual energy level for each combined channel. The power spectrum for each combined channel is then calculated from the averaged reflection coefficients and averaged residual energy level and displayed on a channel-by-channel basis utilizing different colors to represent the different power levels. The utilization of different colors greatly enhances the usability of the display by medical personnel making diagnostic decisions regarding the amount of blood flow.

Non-invasive blood flow measurements utilizing autoregressive analysis

A system for determining the heart rate in response to an electrocardiogram (EKG) signal that has been filtered by performing an autoregressive analysis, low-pass filtered by performing a digital filtering function, and the rate determined by utilizing a digital peak detection technique. In a heart rate detection system, the EKG signal from an EKG instrument is first digitized and then the colored noise component is removed from the digitized EKG samples by performing a linear predictive coding filtering function on the EKG samples. After the colored noise has been filtered from the digitized EKG samples, a low-pass filtering function is performed to remove high-frequency white noise by utilizing a digital finite impulse response filter. Finally, the heart rate is determined from the previously filtered EKG samples by a peak detection technique that performs a recursive algorithm to determine both the amplitude of the remaining peaks in the EKG samples and the period between these peaks.
