A spray gun includes a material inlet and an air inlet. A reciprocating hydraulic motor is connected to and drives a reciprocating hydraulic pump which pumps material from a material reservoir to the pump outlet. A first air piloted hydraulic valve is connected to the pump outlet and the first valve is connected to and is operable to transmit pumped material to either the material inlet of the gun or to the material reservoir. A second motor is connected to and drives a second hydraulic pump which is connected to and supplies hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic reservoir to the reciprocating hydraulic motor. A second air-piloted hydraulic valve is connected between the second hydraulic pump and reciprocating hydraulic motor and is operable to transmit pumped hydraulic fluid to either the reciprocating hydraulic motor or to the hydraulic fluid reservoir. An air control valve is connected to an air supply and is connected to the first and second valves. The control valve is connected to the air inlet of the sprayer and is adapted to actuate the first and second valves to the open position when the spray gun is actuated and is adapted to move the first and second valves to the vent position when the spray gun is deactuated thereby preventing a pressure surge buildup at the material inlet of the spray gun.

Surge controlled air-hydraulic material sprayer

A seal for use in an underwater connector having first and second mating members each of which has a coacting mating surface with a plurality of fluid passageways for mating with the passageways of the other member. The seal is a resilient tubular member having threads on a portion of its outer diameter for connection to a passageway on one of the members. The seal includes a fluid sealing surface on its outer end for mating with the other member and the seal includes a fluid sealing surface on its inner end for sealing with the one member. The sealing point of the sealing surface on the outer end has a diameter at least as great as the diameter of the sealing point of the sealing surface on the inner end. The sealing surface on the inner end is formed by an O-ring seal in a groove in the annular resilient seal. The sealing surface on the outer end includes a ridge.

Seal for an underwater connector

A hand-manipulable electrostatic spray gun is disclosed which is one requiring no electric cable attached to it. Within the hand-manipulable spray gun an air turbine is driven at high speed in the order of 60,000 rpm and drives directly an alternator to generate an alternating voltage in the order of 50 volts at about 1000 Hz. The output of this alternator is supplied to a step-up transformer to achieve a secondary voltage in the order of 2500 volts. From here, it is supplied to a long chain series voltage multiplier to increase the voltage thereof to one in the order of 55-80 kilovolts. The combination of a relatively small transformer and small capacitance establishes a direct voltage output from the voltage multiplier which has an alternating voltage ripple in excess of fifteen percent. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.

Electrostatic spray gun apparatus

A safety airless spray tip is disclosed having an integral guard extending from the forward end thereof to prevent accidental human injection by the liquid being sprayed. The guard comprises U-shaped wire members located on opposite sides of the spray opening to cooperatively define a protected three-dimensional space through which the emitted spray fan passes, the protected space being of sufficient dimension to prevent the injection of human skin pressed against the guard.

Airless spray tip

A paint spray gun of the airless type is disclosed. The spray gun includes a central passageway for delivering liquid paint under pressure to a spray tip having an elongated, sharp edged spray opening and a pre-orifice adjustable in cross-sectional area positioned upstream in the passageway from the spray opening. The pre-orifice is formed by an elastomeric member having an opening therethrough co-axially aligned with the passageway and the spray opening. The elastomeric member is arranged for axial loading and elastic deformation to vary the cross-sectional area of the pre-orifice opening by operation of a control knob externally mounted on the body portion of the spray gun.
