A wind turbine includes a blade having a leading edge, a trailing edge, and opposing first and second surfaces extending between the edges. A vortex generator pair includes a base attached to the first surface and first and second spaced apart fins extending outwardly from opposing portions of the base. The fins each have a leading edge, a trailing edge, a suction side and a pressure side. Each of the suction sides have a trailing half and a leading half.

A hoisting system for the installation of a wind turbine wherein said hoisting system comprises measures to achieve a load bearing connection to the tower of the wind turbine and comprises measures to move the hoisting system up and down along the tower wherein the hoisting system, when it is fixed to an already installed part of the wind turbine tower with said load bearing connection, is arranged to install or remove any of a tower segment, a nacelle, a generator, a hub, and a blade in one or more combined hoists or in a single hoist.

A blade for a wind turbine having an airfoil with a thickness of at least 20% and in particular at least 25% including a vortex generator pair between chord wise position 20% c and 70% c, the vortex generator pair including 2 not directly connected fins and a base which interconnects the fins and where the fins are placed under opposite angles of attack. The fins are cambered by at least 1% in particular by at least 2% and more particularly by a least 3% of the fin chord. According to an embodiment the base of the vortex generator pair is W-shaped, the fins of a pair are designed to generate contra rotating vortices and the distance between the suction sides of the fins is approximately 150% of that between the pressure sides and the trailing part of the fins is rounded so that non-concentrated vortices are generated.

A rotor blade for a wind turbine having a blade root, a transition piece and an aerodynamic part, wherein the blade root essentially is optimized for fixation of the blade to the hub and the aerodynamic part essentially is optimized to extract energy from the wind and wherein the transition part realizes a beneficial transition between the blade root and the aerodynamic part. The rotor blade can perform better both aerodynamically and structurally compared to a classic design when the blade part located near the axis, approximately the part between 0% L and 50% L is provided with one or more of the following characteristics: more twist than usual, attached flow stimulating measures at the suction side, flow blocking measures at the pressure side, thicker profiles than usual, a triangular shape of the profile back and back twist.

Wind turbine provided with a bearing supporting a hub carrying rotor blades, the bearing comprising a rotational bearing race connected to the hub and a stationary bearing race, a lubrication area between the bearing races which area is confined at both ends by first seal rings sealing the gap between the rotational bearing race and stationary parts to form a lubrication barrier. At one or both ends of the lubrication area a redundant seal ring is arranged at a distance from the first seal ring in or near the gap to be sealed.

Wind turbine with a rotor blade relatively insensitive to turbulence because it is more slender than prior blades and is nevertheless able to generate sufficient lift by virtue of the fact that flow enhancing elements such as vortex generators combat flow separation. The slenderness is defined by the chord numbers C and D of which C is defined as C=Nccr&#x3bb;/R, in which N is the number of blades, cis the local chord, cthe lift coefficient, r the radial position, &#x3bb; the tip speed ratio and R the rotor radius. Subsequently, the chord should be less than what follows from the equation C=M in which M=&#x2212;1.19+9.74C&#x2212;21.01C+17.50Cand Cis the power coefficient. This wind turbine is subject to about 2-12% less operational loads and to about 5-40% reduced survival wind speed loads compared to classical designs.

Method and assembly for extracting energy from a flowing fluid. It is proposed to regard all devices of the assembly together as one flow body. In particular those devices on the upstream side of the assembly are set such that they exert lateral (horizontal and/or vertical) forces on the fluid flow, as a result of which flows are produced that guide fast fluid through the energy-extracting devices and guide slow fluid precisely away therefrom. The assembly includes a wind farm and the devices that generate the lateral forces are a type of vortex generators for the atmospheric boundary layer; more particularly they are horizontal or vertical wind turbines positioned at an angle to the wind.

Assembly of energy flow collectors, such as windpark, and method of operation

A blade of a wind turbine is presented. This blade is provided with a root section for connecting the blade to the shaft or hub of the turbine. The blade also contains a wind-energy-absorbing profile which is optimized for wind flow. The output of the wind turbine is increased by providing the root section with a member that is designed in such a way that the assembly consisting of the member and the root section can absorb wind energy and will increase the overall efficiency of the wind turbine.
