A device for manufacturing a multilayered tube formed of paper webs that are provided with transverse perforations at identical distances, wherein sections of the tube are torn off in order to manufacture paper bags, includes at least one perforating knife that is arranged in the machine frame and fastened to a rotating shaft. The perforating knife provides the paper webs with transverse perforations, and the radial distance between the perforating knife and the shaft may be altered so as to adjust the format of the bags. In addition, the device includes transverse gluing cylinders that are arranged in the machine frame, which are provided with transverse gluing bars and which cooperate with devices for applying glue. Also included is a longitudinal gluing roller that applies glue which forms a longitudinal adhesive seam onto the edges of the paper webs which are laterally offset with respect to one another and guided together via guide rollers before the paper webs are folded into a tube. In order to make it possible to reequip the device in a simple and rapid fashion such that tube sections of different lengths may be manufactured, four carriers for perforating knives that may be selectively fastened onto the carriers are arranged on the shaft at identical angular distances. The method includes, in the vicinity of the filling material container, forming the plastic film bag member from a tubular film by providing a welded seam along a lower edge. The bag is spread apart at an open upper edge. The plastic film bag member is separated from the tubular film. The plastic film bag member is inserted over the filling material container. The filling material container is lowered together with the plastic film bag member into the outer packaging member. The filling material container is emptied into the plastic film bag member. The material filling container is moved back to a starting position above the packaging.

An apparatus for filling and closing sacks or bags, in particular paper side folding sacks, has a plurality of processing stations including a filling station, stationary clamping elements for holding the sack in an open position and a slide cyclically movable between processing stations. Outside grippers are mounted on the slide which are designed to grasp an at least partially filled sack at its side folding by clamping the folding from the outside in said filling station and transporting the sack by means of the slide to the succeeding processing station.

A filling station for filling pleat-sided bags transports such bags in flat form to a filling position. A plurality of spreading members are disposed adjacent the front and rear faces of the bag, and have claws thereon which engage the opposing interior edges of the bag adjacent its openable mouth. The spreading members adjacent each given side of the bag are moved away from one another in a direction substantially parallel to the planes of the front and rear bag faces, and the spreading members on opposite sides of the bag are moved away from one another in directions transverse to said planes thereby to unfold the pleated side faces of the bag and open the mouth of the bag. A filling funnel disposed outside of the bag is moved into the opened mouth of the bag, and bars disposed adjacent the exterior of the several faces of the bag are moved into engagement with those faces to clamp the faces of the bag to the filling funnel during the filling of the bag.
