A method of pre-fetching and preparing content in an information processing system is provided. The method includes the steps of generating at least one content pre-fetching policy and at least one content preparation policy, wherein each of the policies are at least in part a function of context information associated with a user. The content is pre-fetched based on information contained within the at least one content pre-fetching policy. Once the content has been pre-fetched, it is prepared based on information contained within the at least one content preparation policy. The context information associated with the user includes at least one of the user's usage patterns, current location, future plans and preferences.

Content pre-fetching and preparation

A technique for optimizing published event message sequences destined for information subscribers in an information processing system. Subscribers specify event interpretation rules which map event message streams into states. The event interpretation rules are maintained elsewhere in the system in preparation for providing optimized, possibly shorter, event message streams to subscribers, sufficient to correctly update the states. If a subscriber temporarily loses access to its event message stream, the optimized event message stream is determined using a shortest path graph search technique between the states defined by the start and end of the missing portion of the stream. Optimizations to the shortest path graph search technique are disclosed for use when the event interpretation rule is in replacement form, in which estimator functions based on extended rules are employed.

Method and apparatus for summarizing missing events using event stream interpretation

A facility is provided for implementing a content-based publish-subscribe system using a group-based multicast. The facility includes mapping all possible groups of the publish-subscribe system to a smaller number of multicast groups, wherein the smaller number of multicast groups include brokers and the brokers have consumers. The mapping includes clustering the brokers of the publish-subscribe system into C clusters of multicast groups, wherein each cluster of the C clusters has its own subset of multicast groups, and wherein C>1. The clustered multicast groups are then used to forward an event to consumers within the content-based publish-subscribe system by multicasting the event up to C times, each multicasting being to a different cluster of the C clusters.
