A method and apparatus for the removal of NOemission from a lean burn compression ignition engine, wherein NOcontaining engine exhaust gas is brought in contact with a catalyst being active in the reduction of NOto NO and comprising at least one platinum group metal with the proviso that the platinum metal is not platinum and at least one redox active metal oxide and thereby reducing NOcontained in the exhaust gas to NO by reaction with CO, hydrocarbons and/or soot being present in the exhaust gas.

Method and apparatus for the purification of exhaust gas from a compression ignition engine

The invention provides a process and filter for catalytic purification of exhaust gas from a diesel engine by passing the exhaust gas through a wall flow filter provided with material being catalytic active in the reduction of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and oxidation of carbonaceous compounds to carbon dioxide and water. The wall flow filter is prepared from silicon carbide and provided with a layer of titanium dioxide on its surface and wherein the catalytic active material comprises oxides of vanadium, tungsten and metallic palladium.

Alkali resistant, synthetic, mineral fibres having the following composition on weight basis: SiO.sub.2 : 42-50%, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 : 8-13%, Iron oxides (calculated as FeO): 6-11%, CaO: 4-11%, MgO: 17-22%, TiO.sub.2 : 0.5-3% and alkali metal oxides: 0.5-3.5%.
